Philadelphia's Classiest Drunkards
So I'm trying to decide what oil to use when I get my car back. I used amsoil signature the past two oil changes then this happened with my motor now I'm up in the air on what oil to use. What's your thoughts on it
Andy, I'm in for lunch whenever. Maybe we could interest Chu into meeting up too.
Pete, there was a serious accident on 100 in exton? I didn't hear anything about it.
Tim, don't you have to run dino oil for X amount of miles on a new motor? I'm sure you knew that and was asking about after that stage. What caused the low oil pressure? Did the amsoil burn off or did something fail?

I'm giving Brad Penn a try personally. I've heard a lot of good things about it and it's reasonably priced.
And yes, use a non synthetic oil for the first 100 miles so the rings seat properly. I do a change after the first heat cycle, then after 20 miles, then after another 100, then 500, 1000 and finally a normal change cycle. It seems excessive but there's a lot of debris that gets thrown around in a new motor.

I don't know if you could blow a motor because of the oil you were using. Maybe because of low oil, but not because of the type of oil.

You'd be surprised how silver the oil looks in a freshly built engine. All those heat coatings, and the cylinder walls etc shed off material. It's microscopic and won't mess up bearings, but I would never let it swim around. There's several schools of thought, but one common consensus is to change it a lot for a new motor.

I used dino pennzoil for break in. It just can't be synthetic because it's actually too slippery and the rings need some friction to seat and wear properly. And one last time, DO YOU HAVE THAT HOOD STILL?

Seriously though, you would know much better than I would. Its def cheap insurance if you look at the big picture.
Back to your motor situation, so if you sold the one, do you only have the 64 now?
Yeah I found a good crank from a vendor. It ended up being reasonable enough price wise to rebuild the 2.4l. That and I have no time to put anything in for the next week. That gave me time and an excuse to rebuild it. The sucky part is I have to clean the hell out of the block and wait for the machine shop to rebalance everything. Curt Brown actually bought the motor. I thought that was cool. He has always had some of the fastest dsms and evos on the east coast.
Had fun Sunday even though I think I was just sliding all over the place, I couldn't get out of the sand trap at turn number #2
Kenny thanks for bringing the helmet.
