Pete, it was good to run in blue/white. I held up pretty well for the first four session (I cruised my last one because I could get it together at the end of the day). I heard from many people that is was an abnormally fast blue/white group. I think I did rather well considering I negotiated through a field of 40 other cars while having am instructor in my ear talking about technique.
It's going to be a sharp learning curve but I'm not learning anything chasing down noobs in green group. The green/yellow run group had 16 people total. I suggested to my instructor that I move down a group for more open track and he said "absolutely not" and that I won't learn anything chasing after beginners.
Time to up my game. I'm sure after a couple events I'll be looking at it differently. Always having something to work on and learn is what makes this such a worth while hobby.

Thats good man. Couple more events in Blue/White and you'll be ready for Black before you know it. Completey agree with your instructor regarding chasing the noobs around, your only going to pick up bad habits from that. Chasing faster guys is where its at.
Overall, I was slower all day than if I just went out and drove. He was trying to show me variations in the line, not over heating tires, reducing pressure on tires through certain corners, maximizing the amount of contact patch by use of line and smoother inputs and (of course) looking ahead/up.
It was helpful and will be good to digest over the next few months. I want to learn to be a fast just driver and not one of those guys that rely on tires/brakes/electronics/sophisticated awd systems or guys that just throw parts at their cars to be faster. (I'm not thinking on anyone particular on here so don't anyone take offense).
It all seems like really basic stuff but I think I picked up a lot of bad habits just whipping the car around to get faster when I was solo. I think I'll be dealing with looking ahead as an issue in every stage of learning. Things change when everything speeds up.
