Running in blue/white was a lot of fun yesterday. Of course, I ruined session one for everyone, but many were nice enough to come over and asked if I needed help with the car and what not. Saw a few friends I made at earlier events and getting to finally run in the same group as them were awesome! Like Dan said, the group was mixed with some very fast guys, and some slower cars. However, I felt pretty comfortable with all of them because they were pretty consistent with their lines, braking zones, awareness, and what not...so I felt pretty safe. Some guys probably could be running in the advanced groups. There were a few times I got late point-by's, but it was dandy. Marc and Thai gets credit for me for pounding safety into my head and not being arrogant on track!!!

Personal best was a 1.40.7. Started the day running consistent 1.46/47...only got to run 3 sessions in total. Ruined first, and worked on car through second and lunch! For you guys with higher mileage cars, check and replace those heater/coolant hoses. The one that goes into the tb on my car split, and cause coolant to squirt everywhere. A $2 hose can really ruin your day.

It was helpful and will be good to digest over the next few months. I want to learn to be a fast just driver and not one of those guys that rely on tires/brakes/electronics/sophisticated awd systems or guys that just throw parts at their cars to be faster. (I'm not thinking on anyone particular on here so don't anyone take offense).

It all seems like really basic stuff but I think I picked up a lot of bad habits just whipping the car around to get faster when I was solo. I think I'll be dealing with looking ahead as an issue in every stage of learning. Things change when everything speeds up.
Looking ahead is the key to everything in motorsports as well as slow in fast out. Also Randy Probst in a recent Sportscar article I read, do not get on the gas until you sure you won't have to lift. Like a religion there, 10 commandments of racing (well 3 of 10).

Glad to hear you guys are progressing, where are you this weekend and who is there besides you and Chu?

like i said, your car is capable of 1:38's if i had more than a couple hot laps. that's your target for the year if you run that track again. those tires will get faster once they are shaved down a little. they should be fastest when they are around half or less worn down.

I think there was 1.39s if we run into traffic on the last session. 1.40s felt really good though. I looked at the lap times, and saw notable improvements in the last session alone. Between the 2nd thru 4th lap, improving nearly 1 sec each lap. I think 1.38 is achievable if I work on turn 1 more. I'm overbraking and going through that corner very slow.

I agree about the tires also. The difference were very noticeable as the day went on. In the early session, they squirmed badly. Almost made me think I should have had them shaved.

Albeit slow, but surely progressing...

don't be a retard and pay to get tires shaved. shave them on the track. you aint competing for time, no need for that extra tents of seconds. i don't buy the best tire money can buy for hpde, i buy the best value for performance. the less i have to spend on tires and other consumables, the more money i have for seat time. concentrate more on developing your driving craft and less on performance of the car.

I'm done spending money on the car for a while aside from new tires when the time comes.

My new coilovers should give me more than enough to play around with for a while.
