in my case it seems the wider the wheels get the more aggressive the offset. which is retarded in some ways.

there's guys running around in rpf1's at 18x10 +15 and hitting the fender liner everytime they turn the wheel. i don't want to be that guy and i also don't want to be camber man either. i didn't buy my car to be hellaflush. i would like a good compromise between looks and performance. if it means buying better wheels in two years because i've turned into an autox badass then so be it.

Dan, the X's are very fortunate to have large wheel wells. I think you should make use of that, and run the biggest you can while not running into those problems. I think 9-9.5 would be good, with an offset that works well for your setup. I have been checking out the X forum lately and there are quite a few people that have funtional setups.

Well, since we're all on the wheel topic, I will let the cat out of the bag...I ordered some last night. 17x9.5 +24 Advan TC-II (GTR face). I dont know what the fitment will be like, but the math seem to work. Weight should be pretty light as the spokes are hollow, and my research shows 18x9.5 at 18.xlbs. Looks exactly like the pic below.

Seems like everyone shuns anything under a ten inch width over on the x side. Rz have 18x10 +22 or +29

i thought 18x9 +20 is a good choice. not too aggressive and still enough room for function of the suspension/steering and body clearance.

yeah i know. i just got to find the right wheel. it may sound petty but tim runs the RZ on his WW X. i'd like to come up with my own setup.

18x9 is a fine choice and it sounds like it will meet your criteria for looks and performance. I don’t know why I suggested what I did, I guess because I’m a minimalist and I like to only by things once. Honestly, I heard ‘new wheels’ and I was thinking you were looking for a dedicated set of ‘race’ wheels, when in reality you’re looking for a mix of street and occasionally race use.

I think anything OVER 10" is shunned. Its because anything 10" and over will need fender work even on stock suspension. People usually buy wheels and suspension separately. That's why 18 9.5 +22 is the golden rule for the X. You can run it without fender modification until you decide to lower the car. When you get coils/springs, there will be rubbing, but it makes sense at that point to do some fender work.

Dan, 18X9+20 will be almost the same as 18X9.5+22. Its actually less aggressive than the 9.5. You should have zero problems running it.

Chatty lil drunkards this morning...

My advise to you Dan, is buy what you want to buy and not what everyone else wants you to get. Gotta make numero uno happy first...

Chu, I thought you were holding off for a while? Nice choice, they should look sweet. What are you gonna wrap around them the RE-01's?

Same reason why I held back on buying wheels this season. Everyone was getting RPF1s, and although I like them, I wanted to be somewhat different. Well, I prolly will be the few running these new wheels as Advan has discontinued them sometime in 2008... BTW, anyone interested in 18x9.5 +20 Work CR-Kais, limited edition "chrome"? A vendor has 2 sets for 1500(?) shipped...I could put you in touch if interested.

Everyone wondering about offset should check this link out. It gives a good comparison on clearance on the inside and side of the stock wheels versus new wheels based on wheel width and offset.

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

Pete, I was trying to hold off as long as I could...but I've always said if I saw a good deal, I will jump on it...and this was a great deal. As for tires, I'm goign to make use of what I have for now, and buy new tires new season. Between the R1R and the RE-01, it will likely be the former as I have to return the wheels to Pete.

R1R's for the remaining season...as we discussed. Who knows about next season, but I may stay on street tires next season also, but with the A6s going on sale, I may jump ship! As for the usage, it will be track wheels only for the rest of this season. I'm selling my winter setup, so the BBS may become dedicated winter wheels unless I run slicks. decisions decisions

I've always been skeptical of buying stuff thats discountinued only because if something happens finding a replacement can be an issue. A good buy is a good buy though...
