of course that has now changed..and the states dont loose any federal highway money regardless of speed...i.e. montana...no daytime speed limit.
Dude! Read the Constitution some time, primarily

Article. VI. Clause 2: This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
Then read this:
The National Highway System Designation Act of 1995 repealed the maximum speed limit, allowing states to set their own limits for the first time since 1974. Many states quickly moved to raise speed limits on both rural and urban interstates and limited access roads. As of October 2001, 29 states had raised speed limits to 70 mph or higher on some portion of their roadway systems.

Pretty gay, but not surprising.

I have a 97+ Eclipse.
I got a ticket once for "smoked headlight covers" because my stock 2g headlights
have a black housing. I asked the cop, "Where is the cover? Do you see
anything COVERING the headlight housing?" and he said "See that? It's all
black. It should be silver like my car" and he pointed to his Crown vic.

Fighting it was a huge hassle. I went to the judge, and he told me to go to the
CHP. I go to the CHP and they said they don't handle writing off this kind of
ticket, but the officer agreed to sign off the ticket anyways. Then I had to go
back to the judge and show him the ticket. I had to take time off from school/work
to do all this and it took a span of 2 months to fight.

You should definately fight the ticket though. It's a matter of
principal. You should go to the dealership and take pictures
of EVO's on their lot, then take a picture of your EVO. Bring
the pictures along with your window sticker showing the
spoiler option on there to court.

Racial profiling a thing of the past....lol

That ticket is BS. Fight it in court. I somehow think you may lose.

I had a cop give me a ticket for a loud exhaust whe nwe were coasting @ 30 mph (barely audible).

Anyway a few weeks later I bumped into him in a performance shop and he tried to justify the ticket and say he would've given it to me anyway "EVEN THOUGH HE ADMITTED HIM AND A BUDDY COP FRIEND OF HIS WERE HAVING A COMPETITION TO SEE WHO COULD ISSUE THE MOST CITATIONS IN A MONTH"........Don't expect me to be sympathetic to cops after hearing that ****.

The Bull**** is I told him I still had the exhaust and he told me that he has no need ot right me another ticket for the same infraction because my ticket helped him beat his buddy.

Protecting and serving............

This post has become famous... we are reading about it down here in Orlando.

Is there really a law for that in NY? How do vans get away with not being able to see out of the back, or tow trucks?

Regardless... this is silly I hope you don't have a problem fighting this. Hell, the stock wings on the 3rd Gen Eclipse block 25% of the viewable area in the back, surprised he's not going around ticketing them as well.

Geez, they think a stock whale tail is bad... My stock drooping headliner (factory adjusted for optimal visual impedance or impedence or other variations of some form of spelling) must block at least 75% of my rear FOV. The only way I ever know I'm being pulled over (typically for my stock broken headlamp or large gaping hole/tears in my muffler) is by the grill lights and minor alterations in headlamp intensity of the crownvic tailing my ****. and stuff.

I've read just about every post. This is my .02.

(1) I hope you get the NY Evo club together for your day in court.
(2) They should be more worried about cars like tnoflahc's. ;-)
(3) Cops are not all bad. Some are stupid, some are mean, many are professionals. You can't call them all bad.
(4) It's obvious that this guy did not know that this was a stock spoiler. Most traffic judges are decent people too. Make sure you dress in business attire and speak eloquently and he'll understand and let you off.

Good luck!

I've been pulled over many times without reason. One time, after providing current insurance card AND the receipt for it (I keep both with me), he wrote me a ticket for no insurance anyways.

Another time, I was pulled over by a trooper. I asked why. He just stared at me for a minute, walked back to his car and took off in another direction (no calls on his radio either).

Another time, an angry officer pulled my brother and myself over and started yelling at us, spitting out the foulest combinations of words I've ever heard. He went on to threaten us, made like he was going to attack us, refused to give his name, then took off. I don't know what his deal was. We filed complaints against him and he got fired.

Most recently, a local sheriff's deputy stopped me after I got off a road with no other traffic. He told me I had been driving recklessly, passing people and running people off the road. I told him no such thing happened, so he told me to "shut the hell up" because I must have done it. He also threatened me, saying he'd ticket or arrest me if he ever saw me again. I filed a complaint against him. No more problems from the sheriff's department.

So yes, cops DO stop you for no reason. In fact, I have not been stopped FOR a reason yet. And yes, even WITH complaints, many of them get away without ANY consequences because they sometimes don't even bother reviewing complaints. An officer on one of the WRX boards I'm on even flat out said where he works in TN, they just throw away complaints as they arrive and don't ever check them.

That is pretty wild. I have gotten tickets for not signaling a lane change on I-80 in the middle of the Nevada desert. I can't complain because I have also just been given warnings for driving home backwards (ie in reverse, told the cop I was just seeing if I could do it), and for running a red light (told the cop I thought I saw him turn earlier, so I thought it was safe to run it). Sorry bout having to waste your day fighting that dumb ticket, but it will be worth it.

I’m sure there is that 10% out there in the whole country that may just pull you over to harass you. But what I meant to say that there is the 90% of law enforcement out there that do there best and are professional and follow the law! What happens on these board is you have ppl just rant on how bad all cops are!

If 90% of cops are decent and professional, there must be one city somewhere of nothing but cops. In fact, the concentration of good cops in any place I've ever lived has been so low as to be nonexistant.

The only time I can really think of where I did NOT have a bad experience was when I got pulled by a SC state trooper for doing 85 mph in a 70 zone. He told me he thought I was going a bit fast, I agreed, he let me go. If I had encountered ANY other cops like that, I'd probably give cops the benefit of the doubt and think they're mostly good but then I see threads like this where these people and I have ALL had nothing but bad experiences. Statistically speaking, if 90% of cops are good cops, 90% of the stops shouldn't be for harassment or just to be asses.

Given my experiences, there are a very few people who become police officers to "make a difference" or set things right. The rest were borderline criminals who had the "intelligence" to hide behind a badge.

Fist thing, I am a Deputy Sheriff (cop) in AZ.

I love my job and my family thinks I'm crazy. They don't understand why I do what I do. The main reason is someone has to do it. With all the crap I see (ie drugs, child abuse, rape..) what would happen if nobody patroled our streets. I enfroce the law to keep my family and yours safe.

People who talk down about cops are just like the people overseas who talk down about our military. Police Officers do a job that not many would want to do and not many can do! (beleive me its not easy to become a cop!)

I am young and drive a fast car and have lots of fun. I am just like most of you and you would not even know it if I was standing next to you. The bottom line is dont judge all law enforcement officers by the few who have power trips or the few who dont like their job but do it anyways.

p.s. If you need any help with the law (mainly in AZ), I would be more than happy to help you. PM me if you need some help with something and maybe I can help you.

Oh by the way... Here in arizona we dont have a law in reference to big wings. Mainly because you can have the back window blacked out as dark as you want. Take a van for example (the ones with no windows) As long as you have side mirrors you will be fine in AZ.

renichms ur an ***. "Given my experiences, there are a very few people who become police officers to "make a difference" or set things right. The rest were borderline criminals who had the "intelligence" to hide behind a badge."

Like 509evo im a sheriff as well, and I wanted the job to make a difference. I didn’t spend 6 years in the Marines to just get the job and harass people. Now I can see why u get pulled over and get tickets cause u have a ****ty attitude!
