Hyper-Formance Road Rally
Hey, one of my buddies from school is helping to organize a road rally series here in NW Oregon. It is open to anyone. 20 second car or 9 second car, doesn't matter. This is a test of navigation skills and the ability to pace yourself. All ranking is based on points, not if you arrive first.
I went to one of the qualifying rounds tonight and hung out with them. Good group of people, and everyone is safety minded. This is NOT street racing, that is strongly discouraged and if caught, drivers are disqualified, a second occurence gets drivers thrown out of the series. I did not get to drive tonight, as I am still looking for a navigator. The course was ~30 miles, and a time window was given of 46:00 - 50:00. Although tonight an extra 2 minutes was extened due to rain. Any time in that window is good for qualification, a time between 46:00 and 46:15 is awarded 500 extra points.
We're looking to get as many people involved in this. Cost is minimal to help promote the events, $50 per driver and $25 per navigator - $75 per team. ONce you qualify, you will be placed on a team (with a sponsor), and will drive for them next season (2005). Pre-season events will be occuring this year, then a 2 or 3 month break till the regular season begins next year. Events will be held once a month. I haven't been told how long the regular season events will be, but I do know that next months event will be approx. 240 miles, with 5 or 6 checkpoints.
All are welcome, qualifying events are being held until the 30th of this month. The route begins at the Starbucks on Farmington Road in Beaverton (Beaverton Town Square), goes through the backroads and loops back.
Let me know if you are interested or have any questions.

The calendar has not been set for next year, so I don't know what days it's gonna be on yet. I don't know how many cars are involced yet, but they are filling the teams with 20 vehicles each. Each team does have at least one sponsor, and they are in discussion with GI Joes and Magnolia Hi-Fi to sponsor the overall series. Cars there tonight included several Preludes, another Lancer, an STi, Civics, and a Jetta. Does not matter at all what vehicle you drive.
this sounds like fun. i'm very interested. what kinda roads? Open, public roads .. or closed ones?
i'd be very curious to know where the events would be located. where was the one you were talking about located?
is the 75 fee for a season or per race?

The qualifying event is on public roads, but the season events will be on closed. The course for qualifying starts at Beaverton Town Square, goes out into BFE, and makes a large loop.
To the best of my knowledge the $75 covers the entire season next year, it's low because they are trying to get a large group of cars into this.

woah, sorry bout this, but it looks like I was fed some wrong information by one of my buddies. It looks like it is $75 for the first event and then $250 (per team) for events thereafter. Course that isn't a problem if you win a couple events or you can get your sponsor to put up the money for you. Just wanted to correct that piece of info.
Um, don't wanna rain on your parade or anything but the guy who's running this is trying to scam a bunch of people out of money. He did this whole thing last year, and the year before. The company flopped when he went to jail because he's a convicted child molester and many people under 18 were involved. I worked with him designing the rally routes and he never paid me.
If you want confirmation ask who's running the deal and you'll find a short black guy named Aaron, won't you? Too good to be true.... Please tell me you didn't give him any money!
You wanna know where the good twisties are just take me for a ride in an Evo and I can point them out to you all day long, if you can afford the gas

no guy named Aaron running this one, there's 3 guys in charge of it, Max, Danny, and another guy, can't recall his name though. They've already had one pre-season event (has been no previous runs) and all of the winners got their prize money.
