Boost Question ?

I was wondering if anyone is running around 21-22 psi on there evo. I am running a Full turboback system, hi cat, FMIC, lower pipe, upper pipe, intake, MBC, SAFC2, . If I lower the car to around 20psi, it doesn't seem to feel as strong. Is this normal for my mods? I hear people online talking about above 20psi on pump gas is just blowing hot air. What do you all think? I did manage to have the car adjusted on the dyno, and they say the car is happy. I will be putting a fuel pump and injectors in next month. I just don't want to do any damage. Can someone who is running a similar setup or has knowledge answer this? I would appreciate it!.

I have the same setup with hks catback, injen radiator, and mbc. The car shouldn't feel like this but it might be because you lowered your psi and you just feel a difference in the cars response. The fuel pump and injectors will help you manage that psi on pump gas and stock turbo. All your car wants is 20 or MORE psi. By the way, mine is at 23 psi.

I run about 22-23psi on 92oct, but I have a XEDE which can retard timing at high det areas. Be very careful running more then 20psi with a SAFC due to it advancing timing when you lean ou the fuel.

I appreciate your responses. I did have the car dyno-tuned on a mustang awd dyno and pulled 300 whp @ 6750, 281 tq @ 4750. I took it and had a road datalog check after I used the dyno. It showed no results of pulling timing. Am I safe? While on the dyno, we tried to raise the boost from 20.3 psi reading 289 hp to 21.75 psi and 300 hp. I was a little worried about how lean he was doing the afc2. Around 5600 rpm I was at -14. through 6400, then 7000 -18. It felt good, car felt very strong, but we ran the a/f at 12-12.5. Is that a safe level on afc2, assuming the timing was not being pulled? I am just concerned because everyone uses richer a/f.

Will I be able to run more boost safely when I put a fuel pump and injectors? Someone chime in who is using that set up without dyno flash.

I understand there are lot of avenues you can create power in the evo, but very few seem to use my mod selection. Thanks for all your input.

Are you sure they had it tuned to 12:1 on pump gas? That is pretty lean on pump, but would be great for race gas.

JJ,

YeAH, I am sure! I have the dyno results that show the fuel curve. He especially ran it lean and told me the car was happy and making power. He said the car would be fine since I am using a bigger FMIC. I will be adding injectors soon along with a supra fuel pump. I am told I should be able to run 23 psi after it is tuned again. Is this correct? If I run a fuel pump and 660 injectors, how much more power should I expect on pump gas 92 octane?

A fuel pump and injectors will not add any power. The fuel pump is more for safety and I highly recommend it. I run a Walboro drop in fuel pump. The only reason your tuner is recommending injectors is to get around the factory fuel/boost cut so you can run over 21 psi. A $150 reflash from Vishnu can take care of that. I even have cams and I am still using the factory injectors at an A/F of 11:1.

As for running 12:1 on an SAFC, well that is between you and your tuner. I wouldn't do it just by the fact that as you remove more fuel you also add more timing advance. Basically, your tuner has taken away any form of safety margin of detenation that may occur from bad gas etc. But, I am not a professional tuner. I recommend you post a question in the EVO tech forum and get some other opinions.
