Finally installing turbo....Pics added

I bought a turbo months ago and have been sitting on it until I rounded up the money to gather all the other misc. parts to go along with it.....so I'm finally starting it as soon as I get home from work today. Here is what is going in:

ATP 3037S turbo kit
revolver cams
ARP head studs, rod bolts
Greddy head gasket 1.4mm
new engine mounts
exedy twin disc clutch/flywheel
new rear control arm bushings
balance shaft eliminators
custom intake setup
IC hard piping
minor porting work
720cc injectors
phenolic spacer for the IM, if it shows up in time...still waiting from ebay...
sending the ECU to vishnu for the flash and base map to go along with the XEDE

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting it all finally put together. If anyone locally is interested in checking it out, lending some advice, or just wants to hang out and have a few beers...just send me a PM.

-Kyle

You decided to go with it eh? Nice. Good luck Kyle, If you need any help next week give me a call, I'll be around. Not this weekend though. What are you doing for IC?

Keeping the stock IC for now. I had called Pina about their setup but decided that I need to put the money elsewhere right now. Hopefully will be done be early next week.

A after market intercooler is critical when upgrading a larger turbo unless your going to keep your boost stock at 19 psi and taper to 16 psi at 5600 rpms

Turbo forces air thus need to cool a engine components, turbo charged engines are not toys if you want your car to last.

A larger IC would help out I agree....but boost tapering is not a result of the IC. I think what you are referring to is running a turbo past it's effiency range, much like the stock turbo reacts when trying to run over 20 psi at redline. I've done a few turbo cars in my time... about 12 different Audi S4 turbo swaps/upgrades. This is the first for the evo though.

Will do. I researched a bunch on it as well and have concerns about that. I do the Megan Racing header, and I also ceramic coated the exhaust side of the turbo to help out a bit. I was also planning on ceramic coating the header as well but have a few concerns about it cracking. Assuming everyone goes well, I'll post of some videos in the next few weeks.

Didn't get as far as I was hoping to. Basically got the engine, tranny, transfer case, and head apart out of the car. Here's a few pics:

Kyle,

If anything the ceramic coating will only help the header on hot spots and also help it to prevent cracking. I'd go and do it, but get the satin black as it will go much higher for heat reducion than the cerma-chrome.

Good to know, thanks Joey. I'll have it done this week while the car is down.

Got the balance shafts removed last night...what a PITA. I can see doing it a second time would be sooo much easier after doing it once. Also got the rod bolts in, ended up taking out the pistons and cursing myself for not waiting longer and just buying new forged internals...but only so much money. Anyway here's a couple pics from last night:

Stock assembly taken out to ease installing the rod bolts.

Balance shafts....claimed at 6 pounds total for both shafts. I'd say it is easily that much, and is spinning twice that of the engine rpm.....Also had to pop out two race's (those circular things), they have oil holes that lube the balance shafts that need to be sealed to keep the oil pressure up. I bought the kit for RRE, worked out nicely.

New ARP rod bolts with their special moly lube.
