Pulled over...
Yes, this morning I was indeed pulled over. So whats the big deal? Again it was because I failed to properly have a liscense plate mounted on my front bumper. So I told the MP (since it was on FT Lewis) that if I didn't have a place to mount it, I was exempt according to the stature. Well the E-4 kept calling me "sir" which was kinda annoying but I handed over my info. Well my insurance card just expired so he talked to me about that.. no biggy right? Just print out a new one when I get out of work. Nah, guy slapped me with two citations on failure to have a plate on my front bumper and lack of insurance. Sweet
I was almost expecting him to try to give me a ticket for my in dash monitor with the screen saver playin.
So does anyone know what page that its on? Or a link to where I can print up a copy of the stature that states you arn't required if you do not have a place to mount it? Luckly I work with a LTC MP who's good about makin stuff go away if its not to shady.

All plates must be affixed to the front bumper. When you purchased the vehicle, the dealer is responsible for intalling the mount. If they didn't, chances are, they will put one on at no charge, BUT they will weasel out of paying for your fine. We are odered to cite, because federal DOT reg's state that a front plate mount is to be installed on US model cars. C'mon man....you should know how the fed's work!
Not true, some states dont require a front plate. It also states that the plate must be affixed to the front of the car, doesnt state the bumper, at least in our state. Have mine in the window and never had a problem.
I'm from indiana, us hoosiers always wonder why there are front plates haha.... anyway, I've been through quite a few states been pulled over quite a bit too... and never got a citation for no front plate. But as far as your question... check out your state's .gov page and look up state laws/statures.
I bought my car in Kentucky, they only have rear lisence plates. To add to that, I have a C-West front bumper and a large FMIC. There isn't any place I can mount my plate safely without damaging my front bumper. So you have your facts wrong. Maybe thats Cali but you're laws suck anyways for the most part. =P I don't hate cops, but I don't like ignorant/arrogant ones ether. To add to that, I'm not saying you are, but sounds like you're just going off the laws of California. All plates must be affixed to the front bumper. This is a touchy subject for me. In WA the law reads "plate on the front of the vehicle", and I believe it says something pretty close to that in OR as well. It does not however say it has to be affixed to the bumper and they cant make you mount it to the bumper if there wasnt a factory location. I am like you, I wasnt provided (and wouldnt use) the ugly, drill holes in my bumper, type bracket. I had it in the window opposite me without a passenger and got pulled over north of Salem and was told that I didnt have my plate affixed. Half to 3/4 of the time WA state patrol and local enforcement dont pull you over or cite you unless you provoke them. I have had my car for a year and never had any problems until the beginning of March in Salem.
Unfortunately I dont believe there is a Statute that says if it wasnt originally equipped its "okay" to not run it or run it somewhere else.

I notice a lot of threads for people that have an issue with getting a ticket for no front plate, but yet it is a law in the state they are in. the evo has a plate mount, just like every other car on the freeway, just that some dealers choose not to install as it's not required in every state. I say, if you live in a state with a front plate law and you choose not to display(like me), then pay the fine.
Idaho does have a front plate law, and the requirements read that it must be visible from the front of the car. some officers will allow placing it on the dash, and some will ticket for that, claiming it's not visible. there's also a limit that the bottom of the plate must be 12" off the ground.
I would bet money that there's no state that has a statute about not installing one if there is no mount. it's a yes or no thing. could be wrong, but I'd bet on it..
I vote pay the fine

I have been pulled over twice about the issue, once by a Mult. cop and once by a Tigard cop. I asked a Portland cop about the plate issue and he said that it needs to visable by a trooper on the side of the road. He also said that it depends on the county (and the cop). Seems like I still could not get a straight answer.
lol no it was a regular trooper. I have been pulled over about 4 times since I have owned my car, and everytime the cop has no real reason to. I think its lame that we get profiled for having a nice car
