future owner intro with a question
I thought I'd introduce myself as I'm currently looking to purchase an Evo IX. I'm currently driving an 07 350Z. Looking forward to being part of the community soon. My name is Slavik and I'm an addict (car addict that is)
Now on to the question.
I test drove 3 Evo's so far. Of those, one had some stiff aftermarket clutch and the other 2 had a stock clutch. The 2 that I drove with the stock clutch (one with 32k, one with 18k), the clutch take up was really high in the pedal travel. The first one I drove (the one with 32k), I just thought that the clutch was on its way out. But after driving the second one with the clutch feeling exactly the same, I'm not sure anymore. All of these were 5 spd's (not interested in a 6 spd) if that makes any difference. So the question is this normal clutch operation for an Evo or are the clutch's on their way out on both of these cars that I drove? The only other car I drove with clutch pick up so high was my civic (don't laugh, first car) when the clutch needed replacing.
The one I'm interested in right now is at Bruce Titus Nissan on S Tacoma Way. I was wondering if it was someone's on here that they traded in.

^really? so do I. I went there today just to look at it, but it wasn't even cleaned up or anything. So we didn't even talk price or anything. I'm gonna go there tomorrow on my Z to talk numbers at about 6-6:30. I was there on my daily protege today.
Do you have a stock clutch on yours? Do you think it'd be possible to meet up with me there tomorrow?

Hey bro,
Yes the clutch travel is WAY more than a 350z...I know because I drove Bryce (Eight08flip) Z because and that really surprised me. I think you're making the right decision though. If you search "EVO" on my350z there are a lot of good info by bboyrico (spelling is wayyy off but his SN starts with BB something or other) and he is very knowledgeable. The Z is a sweet looking car but in terms of performance, handling, and modding, the Evo will surpass the Z in many ways.
I would suggest getting an Evo 9, there is a SWEEET evo 9 SE (somewhat rare) for sale at Infiniti of Kirkland with only 18k miles I believe. You'll also find moving from a Z to an Evo that it's quite different. Evo owners are hated on more, but also loved more by enthusiasts. I have gotten thumbsups from Ferrari drivers before - basically anyones who KNOWS cars that's not an ignorant fanboy and truely appreciate a vehicle will love an Evo. Those that hates it are ignorant of its capability or simply afraid that they will get their *** owned by one.
The Evo driver are different as well, simply because we can don't care what other people think. We know we have an awesome car and don't need other people to reiterate that.

Yes, the Clutch engagement is near the release point on the IX, I noticed on my VIII it was about 1/2 or so, the IX is like 3/4 but I have driven several, all the same, some say its great for launching because its easier to modulate the clutch this way. It takes a little getting used to. Also Launching your Z and the Evo will be TOTALLY different. The Z has slip the Evo has NONE so the Evo bogs down unless you keep the revs up, its not as obvious in the IX as in the VIII though. I think the MIVEC helps allot on this. I agree, Evo drivers are hated more. Its sad, because like the above post all the real car enthusiasts like the Evo and have respect for it. I had a guy in a Porche GT2 in San Diego pull up next to me at a stop light, he rolled his window down and said Nice Ride. I said So do you!!! haha..but there was a respect there, it was the coolest thing. No, Hey Punk Kid want a race??? type attitude. Its just cool. Anyway, I love the Evo for many reasons, but when I last took my car to the Track and the Tech inspectors saw my two car seats in the back, they laughed and said, "Only in an Evo can you be competitive and have car seats in the back". haha....We all laughed. Anyway, good luck on the purchase and welcome to EvoM.

yeah, I know who you're talking about, we used to punk noobs together on the HR forum, funny how he knows more about z's than most z owners.
and I know about the handling to, I autox'd my car and my sister's sti back to back, and i got a better time on the sti the first time out (second fastest of the day, but it was a novice school day), and the evo is much sharper than my sisters sti, I can't wait to kill some cones with it.
thanks for the tip on the Evo at Infiniti of Kirkland, I'll check it out. and yes, I'm only willing to get an evo IX, I don't want an VIII.
one more thing, I noticed you have the RobiSpec KW's on your car. Can I take it for a spin sometime? Nothing aggressive, just on some not so smooth roads. I guess a ride will be fine to since I mainly just wanna see the ride quality. I know they handle great cause of all the people that swear by them and all the records evo's setup by him set. I just don't want a race car suspension as my car will still primarily be a street car, so I want to make sure the ride doesn't kill me. From everything I've read on them, they're supposed to be very complaint, but a real life demo would be great.

just checked Kirkland Infiniti's online inventory, and they didn't have an Evo. How long ago did you see it there?

I know launching is completely different, but I more or less have it figured out. My sister recently got an 08 sti, so i got some practice on that. That car is really what turned me onto boost and AWD. As I mentioned in the post above, faster on an autox first time out and I'm not even all that used to the car yet.

I can definitely give you a ride at the next Z meet or something. I can't let you drive it because I have a strict no-one-drives-my-car policy due to some issues previously. The setting I have the KWs at right now are stiffer than most people would like so I am warning you ahead of time
I'm gonna soften it up for winter here pretty soon but I have been lazy since I'd have to get under the car to or remove the wheels to adjust them (rebound & compression adjustable on the v3)
