Possible spun rod?

I was on my to the meet up north at Mukilteo beach, I pushed the car a little to far topped out 5th on a deserted stretch, a couple of minutes later I noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine bay. Once I stopped and popped the hood the noise was definitely coming from the block. from the videos I seen it sounds like a spun rod bearing, just wondering if someone with more knowledge could put their .02 in. And please before you start flaming me for doing this, understand im not surprised that something broke I would just like some other opinions on what it might be. any help is greatly appreciated thx.

I spun a rod bearing in my srt a few years back. It makes a distinct tic tic tic sound. If you pushed it too hard into the red and you start hearing that along with a noticeable power loss, it can certainly be a spun rod bearing. Hey, time for an upgrade!

I limped it the 3 miles back home, probably not the best idea, so i dont know if there is a power loss. it was roughly 7300-7500 when i let off the gas

I did mine in at the 1/4 mile. I limped it home as well.

One thing I remember is that the tic tic tic started off pretty faint. And then as I ran the car it got noticeably louder and stayed that way. So if you have those symptoms at all it may be time to start digging around to make sure. That's too bad, but you'll be back!

I would check the crank really really close, and if it were mine I send it to a machine shop to have it checked and polished. I spose if there is no damage, discoloration, or any burn (heat) marks in the crank it might be okay, but now is the time to check.

If you spun a rod bearing at only 7200-7300RPM I would also be looking at reason why. Especially with only 38k miles unless you beat on it regulary or have a large amount of power.

the crank is getting sent out with the block to the machine shop so they will give the final word on it, i was planning on having it turned? and or balanced as well.

the only conclusion we've come up with was the oil got to thin, i was only running 10w-30 and ive heard u can have issues at high rpms if you dont run a heavy weight like 20-50 like english recommends. i did track the car quite a bit since i got it in feb 07, probably 10x or so a year down the strip plus alot of spirited runs on back country roads.

A proper 10w30 synthetic is plenty thick enough on a stock clearance motor. If that was the case 90% of evom would have spun rod bearings Send your oil out to blackstone and they can tell you if it were thinning out or was a possible cause. I have blackstone reports from 0w-30 showing how well it works with more than a few track events on the oil

Could be a freak accident but I would most definately have your oil analyzed as it can tell you what metals were wearing more or if you oil could have been a culprit. Also sucking in debris through a dirty air filter is a possible or even a bad tank of gas could cause some knock if your tune was fairly aggressive.
