Help: Is this my Clutch slipping? Youtube Vid inside!

Hi guys,

Please see attached link for the video I took earlier. I was rolling 40 mph at round 2k rpm then just floored the throttle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFom72FZbts

Is this my clutch slipping?

Here are some info about my evo:

- 05 evo 8
- 28k miles
- owned it for about 2 months now
- slave cylinder hard line was leaking few weeks ago. the symptom was the clutch pedal was flat on he floor. it was repaired by cutting the hard line and reflaring it. after this, the clutch pressure was back on nice and firm.
- fast forward to this afternoon... i checked it again after taking it out for a short drive. its leaking again but not from the hard line. i think the leak is coming from the slave cylinder itself. but the pedal pressure is about the same, although its a bits sticky

all i need to know if there is a need for a clutch replacement.

i apoligize for the crapiness of the video. i took it using my camera phone alone while cruising.

help.

Try to put it in 5th gear from a dead stop. If you can't get it to roll, you need a new clutch.

Once you're rolling you're clutch should not be engaging, at least I believe.
But it doesn't look like you're mph goes anywhere, like you're clutch is in.
I thought the clutch only slipped when you're up in boost/horsepower, which obviously is not at 24k.
Weird, I don't know though. Hopefully someone sheds some light on this.

Really? Does that work? I would think you would have to slip the hell out of it to go in 5th from a stop.

Slipping clutch is my thought. Probably a result of the clutch not fully disengaging when you had that leak. 28k is not alot of miles, if you're not modded try taking it to town and country. Explain that it wasn't abuse, it was a result of a faulty clutch line.

Josel, I'm assuming that you were "in gear" when you hit the gas and while no mph gain at first, it slowly started to gain mph toward the end of the video when the rpms dropped back down. If so that is likely your clutch slipping. I would try to get that warrantied (though you are the 2nd owner and I'm not sure how that will fly). Good luck!

yes i was in fifth gear.

i was flooring it when the rpm when up then dropped down to around 2k then kind of when up again at the end... i gained speed but it wasnt much...

also, i tried this: 5th gear, from stop try to move forward without stepping on the gas... the evo went forward without stalling.

oh yeah, after doing the flooring test, the car smelled so bad. my buddy said it was the clutch.

That sounds like you're clutch, sounds like its stuck engaged, for whatever reason.
And if you smell it, its definitely sticking.
