To own an evo you have to realize it's meant for one thing and one thing only...going fast. It's not meant to look good or be comfortable. I personally made the mistake thinking it would be an okay daily driver. Honestly mine now isn't that comfortable, rattles, and rides pretty damn stiff with the springrates I run...hence the reason it stays parked M-F. But as soon as you start pressing the go pedal around corners and realize virtually any production car short of an exotic has no chance. I constantly throw around the idea of getting rid of mine but short of 60k I can't really find anything that can match the performance but offer more comfort. C6 corvette is about the only car that can I personally like.

Cliffs:

Handling/Power: Evo > MS3
Comfort/Gas Mileage: Evo < MS3

I stopped checking my mileage long ago. As long as it's still in the teens I am satisfied Cruise control is for people that stay in one lane and drive slow...I tend to do neither when driving this car...

Didn't mean it as a pwn, Just a joke. I thought they were ugly until now too. And the MS3 was on the top of my list but I couldn't get past the FWD and torque steer.

Aside from the fact that it would probably have over 80k miles on it, part of me wishes I still had the Evo.

i decided i was going to get the 07 or 08 ms3 for the following reason when i was in college:

- nice and sporty hatchback
- turboed+other good stuff
- comfy and really convenient from all its options
- 0% financing - Could have been the selling point

i steered away from it because of the following reasons (already out of full time school at the time):

- ms3 are super common here in vancouver, bc
- FWD
- gf didnt really like it
- i saw a regular mazda 3 hatchback taxi - pissed me off so bad so i dropped the idea

glad i changed my mind, of not, i would have been stuck with it. now its super common not a head turner anymore. really happy with the evo (even though its being such a garage queen as of the moment)

just want to say welcome again to both of you who switched from mazdaspeed 3 to evo!

Haha of all of the threads I have ever created on this thing we call the intArweb, non have generated responses like this. That could be good or bad... Either way, I wasn't trying to start a MS3/Evo debate. There is no comparison when it comes to performance. The Evo is faster, out handles, and can take FAR more abuse than the MS3. All the Mazda has, as Ryan stated, are the interior amenities. In that area, the MS3 is in a whole different league.

All I was saying is my stock Evo is not as fast as my almost fully bolted and tuned MS3. This isn't an opinion. It's fact. And if any of you with stock Evos don't believe me, let's find a time and place :-)

Viva la Evo. For me, AWD is the present now, instead of the distant future.

how much power did it put down? Or are you judging by what the company that made your "one size fits all chip" says on their website! lol
I honestly would take that bet a stock evo 9 would take your car on a strip. Do you have any idea how many lengths you would have to make up after you get RUINED off the line? and please tell me you don't have your spark plug type in your mod list lol!! haha

Hahaha, Aaron still has more power than he does. We keep track of most the high horse Evos in the NW to see who is doing what.

I wasn't aware that Cobb's AccessPort was a 'one size fits all' chip. Anyway though, if you had read the thread, you'd have seen where I said that my statement was total bench racing, as it has not been dyno'ed yet, and my statement is based off of what many many others with the same or similar mods are putting down, which is right around 280-310 to the wheels... dyno dependent.

But if it will make everyone feel better, I'll try to have it dyno'ed here in a couple weeks.

Also, as I stated, after 30mph the MS3 would easily beat a stock IX. From a dig the Evo would have a chance. If I drag raced, similarly modded MS3's are trapping 103-107, which if I recall is faster than at least the magazine tested Evo's do.

Again, all bench racing. Find a stock Evo and lets go somewhere.... if it'll make you feel better :-)

I will try to have it dyno'ed soon. I've been curious for a long time. I suppose I could have a friend of mine drive my Evo, and I'll drive the MS3, race my car against my car.... on a track of course.... haha wtfe, the Evo is a better car for what I'm looking for, and I can't wait to start modding it.

we were talking about on a legal strip. Not a street race. So your saying your ms3 would win after 30mph?? Would if from a roll at 15? it would still lose untill 30? Thats a hard thing to anticipate results for. There are all kinds of variables that can be had when making specific claims such as that. Besides all the race talk i love ms3's. I think they are beautiful cars and mazda has the best production colors. If you ever run into a stock evo at the track. Let me know how it turns out.

Hey now... lets not promote street racing. (you have to get to the track somehow)

You got rid of another Evo? Last I saw I thought you went from the Porsche to another Evo and now to the STi? Maybe I had read that wrong in the past.
