Drive for a good cause

I know there are a few of these going on around this time. Even though this is the case I was thinking of doing one also. I have talked to Shawn (vicksen) and we may be brainstorming doing a drive this upcoming weekend (Dec 5th and 6th).

On the 8th my church is doing a thing we call Father Christmas for Hough Elementary in Vancouver. This elementary school is situated in what is pretty much a lower income area. About 10% of the kids are either homeless or very likely to become homeless (because of the economy), and over 40% utilize low income lunch meals etc. Our church helps with several groups in throwing a night together where kids can buy toys for anywhere from 50 cents to $2.00 for their families. We also do cookies and hot chocolate etc, as well as craft areas. Basically a get away and have fun for the kids kind of night.

I myself have taken on the job of doing food and drinks, while my girlfriend is going to head up the crafts area. What we are hoping to have happen is a small drive next weekend where people bring a new toy (of any value, but something you think elementary kids would enjoy) and go have fun with a bunch of gearheads. I will then donate them to the school on behalf of the car people in the area.

Also, if anybody would be interested in helping us out that night, let me know and we'll see what we can work out.

Thanks!

John

I should have a meet place and route trouble shot by Tuesday. Hopefully we get a good break in the weather. Sorry for the lack of details at the moment. I blame Johns being as excited as a virgin on prom night, but seeing as how this is for a good cause it's appropriate. What day do you guys want to do this, Saturday or Sunday?

Yeah I saw Saturday was a good day for driving.

iseedipp, I forget your first name, however there are several different roles to volunteer in. I will get further clarification on which ones my church is a part of. But I know the roles would be like kid shoppers (those who help the kids shop), gift wrapping, the craft area, the food area, setup and tear down. I'll PM you once I know specifically what we are doing and see if you'd still like to help. I really appreciate it!

Last I heard Shawn was going to get some people to go? I haven't heard anything since then. I should probably bug him and find out if we can make it happen. Hell even if it wasn't for donating toys I'd still want to go anyway. One last one before the year is over.

We'll be conducting the traditional test flight on Friday, and as always those who like to get a preview are welcome to try to keep up.
