But just because you live near 3 high schools makes you know about every kid that graduates from a drivers ed program? I was taught in drivers ed, that when something like this happens, or your brakes fail, to down shift, and turn the car off, and find a hill to put the car in park. As im sure you know, washington state has strict drivers ed standards, that all public/private drivers ed schools follow.

Now whether the kids follow what theyre taught is up to them, but dont think that because you live near 3 high schools, that it reflects the rest of the state, or even the nation.

Now-a-days kids are taught better in drivers ed, so they know how to react in a situation like that, back in the day, they didnt teach those sort of things, so its hard to blame anyone, or say that the guys failed, if anyone failed, it was Lexus for making floor mats that had the capability to do that sort of thing.

didnt you just finish drivers ed?

I am probably the most recent graduate of drivers ed on this northwest forum, yes. So my drivers education was the same as those kids he's talking about, but I guess I just make the right decision to drive civilized.

Brakes work without the vacuum assist, they're just harder to push.

Neutral with the ignition off wouldn't save their lives anyway. If they couldn't figure out to shut the f**king car off, it's enevitable they'll drink bleach, or use a fork in a light socket at some point.

I'm all for this 'throttle' malfunction. Our country is trying to protect people from Darwinism, and unfortunately, all they're accomplishing is a less intelligent nation as a whole....

FYI though, VW has been using drive by wire since 2000, and I've never heard of this happening on any of their lines (vw,audi)

For the record tho, I hated that crap, there's a connection between my foot and the throttle body you don't get with drive by wire.

1) your arguments regarding strict drivers ed standards in this country are baseless and false. (look into platform based drivers training in japan, now compare it to the BS we have here)

2) Sorry that you've been thrown into the category of "guilty by association". (ever make a crack about XXX type of driver? well now your the honorary "XXX driver".

Now, as you said your the most recent graduate, you probably also feel strongly that the application of knowledge is more important than the presense of knowledge.

So your recent training doesnt mean dick unless you apply it.

How many of us who've been driving for ~10 years feel that we were better drivers without 100,000+ miles of real-world experience?

^ just for you chief!

A cop flipped a ***** and followed me for approx 2 miles the other day (I was between two volvo's and he crossed a double yellow to pass the tailing volvo just to slot behind me).

He got mad when I stopped (in a safe spot) and confronted him why he followed me. And was even more upset when I asked if he thought I was speeding behind the volvo or perhaps matched a description for a wanted criminal.

Profiling based on vehicle.... sad story

LOL what'd he say? That's funny ****... I got yelled at once for pulling over before the cop was behind me with the lights on...

He's like why'd you pull over?

Um, I see you standing there w/ a radar gun and I was doing 50 in a 30, it's obvious you caught me.

Well don't pull f*(*& over unless I tell you to pull over. I didn't pull you over, so don't stop. Do not stop unless I am behind you WITH my lights on.

WTF dude, I'm in a diesel rabbit, what am I gonna do, give you a run for it?

So, standard rule of thumb, I'm on the gas until the cop's directly behind me. If I see his lights and he hasn't flipped a ***** yet... you're not pulling ME over, so c'ya till you catch up...
Cops...

Toyota has recently decided to retrofit the cars with programming that will kill the throttle when the brake is applied. So no more old ladies riding the brakes or left foot braking at that track with your Avalon (yeah right). So, TO ME, it would seem there is more to it then just getting your floor mat caught under the pedal.

I do not know how a CHP officer could not safely get that Lexus under control, but from what I have heard about the 911 call, the brakes were smoking and were no longer able to bring the car under a safe speed. Why he didn't just just the car down, or put it in neutral, is unknown.

I can appreciate that comment seeing how you are probably closest to being a cop than 99% of us.

Lol Ryan regardless of what you think, they do teach new things now compared to what they did to those guys driving the lexus, say 25 years ago when they took drivers ed, that was my whole point, but you had to make your own rant about something completely ****ing useless and off topic, so get off your high horse, and talk about what I was trying to talk about in the first place.

It's okay though, because I know what I was saying is correct, they do teach real world scenarios that have become known in the past 25 years (car shutting off while driving, what to do when you run out of gas or when your car overheats, etc.)
