That was engineered after the fact, he didnt buy his with Galant seats.

Dunno. Jake had the wrong interior, it had a bad case, and 140k miles (not that was a big deal).

What kind of nonsense are you babbling on about now? Those were 100% stock.

That is the thing. I was completely willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I sent him a message right away after I realized they were not Bilsteins (like he specifically said they were) and said I would bring them right back. I was thinking maybe he thought all MR's came with Bilsteins and made an honest mistake. Strange that he didn't respond, right?

Are you kidding me??? It is entirely your job as a buyer to make sure you're not getting ripped off. You're buying stuff off of some random guy... I know you don't want to hear posts like this, but seriously man.. you need to know that you are ultimately responsible for making sure you're not getting ripped off... you actually saw them in person before you bought them.

I mean honestly.

And as much as I feel you, as I have a motor downstairs right now from a similar situation. Quit crying like a baby and man up, like its been said, sell what you don't want. It sounds like you got a $350 pair of used springs for $350, or a little less because you met him.

So?

You were getting the springs anyways? You overpayed? Could a, should a , would a got em for less. Wah.
Swift Spec R springs are like $300 shipped brand new. I paid $350 for something worth around $200 at the most. See the difference? I even offered to just buy the springs AFTER I figured out they weren't Bilsteins.

I don't understand you people. First, I specifically asked for comments like these to not appear in my thread. Second, if you have any class at all you will be 100% honest at all times when you are selling anything. He knew what he was doing. How was I to know that the prior owner of the car didn't paint the Bilsteins black? In addition, I thought I remembered seeing a thread on evom with black Bilsteins but I was obviously wrong. I asked him TO HIS FACE if they were Bilsteins and he said yes. He lied right to my face. If you do this in any other form of business you will go out of business and probably go to jail. It is NEVER acceptable to lie or be dishonest when doing business. Bottom line.

If tell you that I am selling you Bilsteins I am selling you Bilsteins. Plain and simple. If you find out later that what I sold you wasn't what I said, and I made a simple mistake, I will refund you no questions asked.

I can't believe anyone would say this is my fault. Absolutely incredible. I should have known they were supposed to be yellow, sure. More importantly, HE SHOULD HAVE TOLD THE TRUTH AND NOT CHOSE TO BE THE LYING SCUM THAT HE IS. The least he could do is tell me to my face that he lied to me.

All that being said. You can bet your *** that next time I will be more careful.

I know you said you don't want people saying buyer should have known better....

Buyer should have known better. Struts are canary yellow. You've been on the forums for 5 years and drive the car of choice on the forums. The least you could have done was google it or search the forum for info.

The internet is a big place and people are as shady and funky as can be.

Take it as a life learned lesson, don't be so naive in the future.

+1 ^^ at least it's not that much of a loss. Personally I can't find that as a scam. It's more of misinforming and you said you did some research so assuming you already know what you're looking for, you met up with him and inspect the item before you exchange item for cash.

Sorry to hear about your loss though. It's a lesson we all learn from buying on forums. What you can do to coup your loss is to put your stock springs on the strut you just got or sell your original setup to someone who need two sets for summer and winter. At least you don't lose that much. Just my thought.

How do you know he absolutely KNEW that they weren't Bilsteins? I mean it is a rookie mistake, but what are the chances that both of you didn't know what they look like?

I asked if they were Bilsteins several times. He said yes. If he made a mistake that is fine, but he should have offered to refund my money. I would have been ok with that. Mistakes happen.

I guess different people have different opinions on how deals should be done. I am of the opinion that you should always be honest and stand behind your word. If you mess up it isn't a big deal. Just apologize and make things right. No problem, things happen.

No.

Per Wikipedia: Under the doctrine of caveat emptor, the buyer could not recover from the seller for defects on the property that rendered the property unfit for ordinary purposes. The only exception was if the seller actively concealed latent defects or otherwise made material misrepresentations amounting to fraud.

If you sell a house that has a non-conforming room and the buyer asks you specifically if that room is non-conforming and you say no, then the buyer can sue you later on down the road for damages. You don't have to disclose defects unless specifically asked, but if you lie when asked then you can be held liable. Have you ever bought or sold a house? If you have then you will know this is fact. This is EXACTLY what happened here.

Look, the ONLY reason I have any issue with the situation is because I was specifically asked several times if the struts were Bilsteins. I did not care if they were off his MR. I only cared if they were Bilsteins and covered myself several times.

I am done defending myself. I think that I was wronged and others don't seem to think so. Oh well.
