Speddmn's mod thread

Just wanted to share a pic of the beast, some things i've done and some things I plan to do

Done -
blacked out the front grille area
LED's in the accent lights on the headlight assemblies
LED front turns - I've been obsessed with the fast blinkers for years
LED rear plate lights
35% tint on the front
Debadged including rear mitsu logo
Large rear spoiler
CF rear bumper reflectors - used DyNoc
DIY obnoxious red flaps
JL 10W0 with an e1000 amp
Yellow tint on the front fog lights
Perrin filter
Curtis Class III Hitch
Red-out tails
Front STB - Best $30 spent so far

ToDo -

Lower it if I can find what I'm looking for...
Replace the factory muffler with a Borla I have lying around in the garage

Nice job..

Did you just drop the JL directly into the stock Rockford sub box?

Nope it's in its own box - maybe 13x13x10... amp is on the back of the passenger folding seat. I didn't spring for the sub option (to be honest I bought one of the first sports in town right off of the lot without a detailed understanding of my options)

Be careful with that amp, because of the "smart" alternator in the O-Sport a replacement will run you over a grand for OEM.

Is there a documented problem or history of issues or is that more of a general warning... everything is installed perfectly and has been running for a year without so much as a hiccup

more of a general info.

However, the cost of those "smart" alternators ARE $1,200 MSRP, so even if you can find it at a discount, it's going to cost a pretty penny. Since those units are new to the market, I'm not sure if you can even find rebuilds/remans. for these if something goes wrong.

So, it's just a friendly heads up to take a bit more caution when dealing/working with the electricals.

But, it's great to hear you have had no issues for over a year with your setup!

As mRVR stated, it was just a general warning. I haven't heard of a single case of an O-Sport alternator failing but I just figured I'd make sure you knew how much a replacement would run ya lol

Thanks for the scoop guys - appreciate the info, hadn't occurred to me that the alt was such a specialty item.

In unrelated news I threw a perrin Evo X Panel filter in last night... early results from the drive in this morning are... eh whatever. I didn't have a chance to beat on it much given the rush hour traffic but we'll see about the alleged MPG improvements. Regardless not a bad pickup for $45 off of ebay.

Sure thing..
Yeah, who knew that once the manufacturer adds a regen. circuit to a stock alternator they would jack up the price of it to those kind of extremes!

Yes, please keep us posted on the MPG with the Perrin air filter.. I'm interested to see.

No real difference with the Perrin filter unfortunately... bit more noise but the pig isn't exactly a quiet ride anyhow...

just folded the bottom with a rubber mallet until it was the right size to fit then mounted it with one of the expanding screw deals used to mount the original - it's wedged into one of the grille holes, they expand as you screw the nut down and it's pretty darn secure, been like that for about 6 months now so I'm no longer worried about it coming out.

After I posted pics I got bored so I went and did a red-out on the tails and knocked off the mitsu logo from the tailgate... Idle hands and all that...

look good love the license plate I was looking for an EVO style front side bumper mount for a while but they are crazy expensive. I like you way you did yours it looks clean and you state has a pretty cool looking plate as well. Texas plates suck.
Did you just do the red tail light vinyl film over the blinker part, and swap out the amber blinkers for red ones? I cant decide if I want to go smoke or red.

We hate these plates here in Nebraska

I did do it just over the amber and clear sections, not the entire housing. I left the amber blinkers, I dont mind if they flash amber, didn't like the contrast when they weren't on.

Personally I think smoke is overrated and played out but its your car m8
