Outlander Sport : Subwoofer

Currently, this is the stock sub >
a single 10" Rockford Fosgate driver in a "custom" fitted box located at the rear passenger-side hatch area.
(Specs : 10-inch dual-voice coil subwoofer with Punch® control)

It's a good starting point...

Has anyone attempted to install anything Bigger??

.

I've got a JL 10w0 and an e series amp in the back of mine in a 'normal' box... technically it's not bigger but I'd bet you a 6 pack it hits harder

You should be able to use the factory box as a mold for a different 10 or even possibly a 12. We are planning on doing a glass box with a 12 in the factory spot.

I have not doubt yours hits harder.
You got photo(s)/video of your JL setup??

Good idea!
I would like to see your custom glass box when completed with a 12"er.

But, I was actually thinking about using the spare wheel well... A custom formed box to house a single 15", maybe?

Would that be too extreme??

I drive too much so I wont get rid of my spare tire for a sub enclosue. 1 12 inch with the right enclosure would be enough in the Sport.

I'll preface this by saying if you're a bass-head go nuts, but I think a 15 is definitely overkill in the smaller cabin of the sport, also you'll be chasing rattles... I've already had to dynamat my plate and tighten down a handful of other spots (b pillar trim, glove box) with my current setup...

Actually.. I'm a jazz, opera, classic rock type of guy.
The stock 10" RF sub is too boomy to me.

But, I appreciate your heads-up on those "rattle" spots. I'll make sure those areas are tighten down, for sure.

Did you finally change your sobwoofer? If yes, do you still keep the stock sub? I'm kind of interested to buy yours, if you don't mind. I'm a big fan of OEM and we don't have luxury of rockford fosgate audio system in our OS here.

Well.. I had all the components:
2 15" MTX
1 2.0 Farad Cap
1 Monoblock Amp

Was in the process of drafting a box design, then some lady put the kabash to the whole project.

So, the stock sub was mangled pretty much like the rest of the vehicle > LINK

I'm taking it slow, since I haven't gotten a single penny from her (yet). We'll see what happens once everything is settled.

Wow.. I didn't notice that before. Looks like the subwoofer wouldn't survive the crash. So how's the news? That was almost four months ago. Insurance wouldn't take that long to settle ordinary accident like that in my country... Do you finally get a new car?

Oh..?
Insurance companies here LOVE to help you... out of your money. And, when you really need to collect on a claim... They (the other driver's policy company) dragged their knuckles and STILL am.

They were telling us how it's "an (easily) repairable accident... new bumper, a new hatch & glass, and beat back the sheet metal on the roof, rear fender - be as good as new. We can get started on it right away, just sign & date the release forms."

I haven't had a chance to play with the subwoofer or rear panels but I plan on replacing the rest of the speakers with Pioneer. Does anyone know if taking out the subwoofer is just a matter of removing the speaker grille? Or do you have to come from the back side of the rear panel?
