'13 LE engine balancer

Hey all,
So I have read that the 2013 Outlander Sport LE has a engine balancer to improve acceleration and performance. Have not been able to find any details on this besides the official statement from Mitsubishi repeated by news sites that includes no actual information. It sounds like a balance shaft, but people have been taking those out of 4g63T for years in order to...improve acceleration and performance. Funny. Does anyone know what this actually is?

No clue, but from I what I read there isn't any increase in HP or TQ, but allegedly faster times, like you said.

Lightweight pulley, perhaps? Or does it say internal balancer?

Dual mode dampener, I'm not an engineer but there are two mass points and a bunch of harmonic balancing material in between...

Any new info on this? I thought it was strange also that no increase in BHP or TQ yields quicker acceleration. I did read on TopSpeed that the balancer shaft will "reduce rolling resistance inside the engine". The mighty 4b11t isn't equipped with one so I wonder how beneficial it really can be on our NA 4b11.

What a balance shaft does in an inline engine is smooth out vibration. Since the engine is asymmetrical, it tends to vibrate in one direction. What the balance shaft does is rotate excentrically to counter these vibrations. Therefore, the engine feels smoother.
