Hell, I've been pulled over thinking "white" was blue. That's when I realized how vague that can be, and as you know standing in the dark with a police officer arguing colors, the law is going to win. You may beat it in court, but the opportunity cost of wasting your time off work, and still paying fees, really isn't worth it.

I still like the blue over the red, even though I like the idea of thinking outside of the box going with red, is pretty cool in itself.
Yeah, I'm not really sure I'm going to keep them. Personally, I like the red a lot better than the blue, but that's just a matter of opinion, obviously.

Also, I finally had a chance to check the IVC, and found this:

(625 ILCS 5/12-212) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-212)
Sec. 12-212. Special restrictions on lamps. (a) No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any highway with any lamp or device on the vehicle or equipment displaying a red light visible from directly in front of the vehicle or equipment except as otherwise provided in this Act.
This is a separate, specific mention set apart from the "flashing or oscillating" lights regarding emergency vehicles. Because it is specified, I am a little more weary about it now.

Has anyone done floor lighting? I noticed it's available as an extortionately priced kit so I guess it would be easy and cheap to put together something similar. It would be nice to have it linked to the courtesy/dome lighting upon doors opening and closing.

Another vote here for superbrightleds.com, I used them a few years ago when I converted navigation/running/anchor and all interior lights on my boat to led. Cheap and decent quality.

I've had some "super white" 13 smd's as my parking lights since I got my car. I can say they definitely look blue at night, but they're hardly noticeable with the headlights on and I've never had one problem with the police. If anyone's going for white, I'd try a warmer temp led and see if that looks more like a natural white.

I put led straps under the front driver and passenger and power from dome light. Lights up when door opened or the dome light is turned on. Nice and bright and cost 10 times cheaper than factory kit and you can choose any color you like.

I just fish the wire from the LED to the dome light bulb. It's just + and - here's couple pic of the brightness of the LED strip. one with flash and one without flash

Attached is the OEM Installation Guide. Of course, this seems to be overkill just for wheel well lighting (like using a hole-saw ), but it should give you some good ideas on wiring (like using the fuse the one would).

Or one of its neighbors I'm sure. Like I said, I paid like $3 or $4 for them, so I didn't expect much. I just wanted to see how I liked the red before shelling out the $$$ for a decent set of LED bulbs.

I think I'm going to do the side-firing LED strips across the top of the housing like Wes has (and you were talking about - did you ever move forward with that project?) and then use the base from the the current LED bulbs as a "plug" for the LED strips. So the LED strips would become my "parking lights" and I don't have to splice any OEM wires.
