I think I am going to do this... Will likely wire to the brakes as that is easiest ( as compared to the fogs)

There's a discussion of the rear fog lamp on the UK ASX forum.

Thanks. But that looks like WAY too much work. I think I might just wire it into the running/brake light. If I want to get fancy I will add one of those 3rd light flashers. One would think this should not be such a Herculean task. One would be wrong.

Just closing the loop on this one. I found a great deal on the rear centre fog lamp and looked into the instructions and found someone to help me with it but then I checked into the legality (since this is not a North American thing). Turns out rear fog lamps are ILLEGAL up in Canada. I did not check the US, but due to the uniform traffic code it would not surprise me if it were. So... not gonna happen. Now if I could only find a clear one to use as supplementary backup (legal) lighting.

If you're still wanting it, you could always wire it up as an extra brake light, if that's legal in Canada, lol.

Yeah, they are legal in US and Canada, but only one and it must be mounted higher than the regular brake lamps. I suppose a guy will get away with it though.... I'd still like to use a backup lamp there.

I have had mine in for about a year now . Used it a lot last winter and in some foggy mornings , passed a a few cops , never had any issues . Also if they are illegal why do some of the Audi, BMW ,Mercedes cars have them from the factory?
I say put it in ,wire it up and use it when you need it , I don't think you will have any issues

I've never seen any cars with them up here. I might do this, but without reprogramming the ECU my best option would be to make it a third (4th?) brake lamp. Legally they are supposed to be used with a separate switch (like the ECU allows) and only with fogs. It appears as though the bumper fascia has to be removed to install it and if I'm going to find someone to help me with that, I will add the white/red LEDs in place of the current reflectors - and wire them to the running lamps and reverse. At least that is the plan... It is a darn shame there is so much crap to do to get at lamps in general these days.

I'd didn't remove mine , I ran a wire though the hole and hooked a wiring harness to that that has a cig lighter plug on the end and tucked the wire in along the drivers side panels up to the drivers seat so I can plug it in to the power outlet . I plug in when needed , works good for me and because mine is a lease I don't have to take anything apart when turn in time comes
