new 2015 os owner with stereo install?

New member to the site and the happy owner of a 2015 black outlander sport that we picked up yesterday. Had no plans on buying a new one, but we wanted to upgrade from our 2008 lancer and os was the only thing that felt right. We bought the base model with the 4 speaker system and my wife is coming from the fosgate system in her lancer, so looking to upgrade it and have a couple questions that I couldn't find answers to in the search. What dash kit is everyone using for a double din? Is there one that doesn't replace the whole surround? How is the usb port wired to the radio? Also I see these cheap backup cameras on eBay that mount in the factory location, any one have any experience with them? I like the factory look, but quality is more important. So far love the os and any install tips from guy who have messed with the 15s would be appreciated.

Thanks Jason

I had some issues with an install in my 14. The kit that Crutchfield sells for our vehicles does not fit, even though they said it would. I decided to run everything off of the stock head unit. I use an Alpine Power Pack to run four Alpines in the doors, and an MTX sub/amp system in the back. The Alpine unit can plug into a stock system.

I had a lot of my system done in the dead of winter, by a shop, so I didn't see all of it. I did have to install a kill switch because they messed something up.

To my knowledge, there are no surrounds or kits that work properly with us.

I almost ordered the one from crutchfield, glad I didn't now. Another thread talked about using one from a regular outlander. Might give that a try or just pick up a stock touch screen from eBay and go thatv route. Don't really care about the nav, just wanting the double din look with a back up camera.

I used the the t for the regular Outlander. Seemed to work OK with the mods I listed on the other post. But Scosche has a new kit, Scosche MI3024B. It says it is for Nav only, but looking at the pics, it should be right. I am going to use this kit when I switch to Double Din.

Q

If your trying to retain the factory usb and steering wheel controls. You would have to Upgrade to the OS factory nav unit. If you don't mind lossing the usb most after market units have usb Capabilities, so a cord that you can stick in the glove box or maybe run to the arm rest storage. Also you can get a adaptor to retain some of the steering wheel controls.

if you want a better sound with out switching anything, get a 4 or 5 channel high/low converter, tap it in and you can run a 4 channel amp and sub, on your factory radio. Some converters have a bass knob for the sub. I would recommend swithing the door speakers running a 4 channel amp

I bought this one on Ebay. It is for the Outlander model.

[URL="http://http://www.ebay.com/itm/METRA-95-7015CHG-2014-Up-Mitsubishi-R-Outlander-Double-DIN-Installation-Kit-/191566276320?hash=item2c9a3d66e0"]

Fits ok, leaves about a 1/16" gap and since the dash is curved you have to be ok with the corners sticking out a little. Ill try to post some pics. I also have a picture gallery of how to use the factory speaker brackets with aftermarket speakers on my page. Check it out.

Just bring this back from the dead. Use Metra 95-7018CHG instead. 7015CHG is for regular Outlander, and the brackets aren't deep enough.
