Change Transfer and Rear Axle Differential Oil
Change Transfer and Rear Axle Differential Oil
Hi,
I have a 2013 Outlander Sport at 105000 km on it. According to the regular maintenance schedule the transfer oil should have been changed at 96000km (60000 miles). I figured I should changed the rear axle oil at the same time since they use the same lubricant. I don't think anyone has a thread on this topic....Has anyone completed this task? If so, what oil did you use? Pics?
Thanks for any input

I would be surprised if the regular maintenance plan did apply to your car in Winnipeg. My dealership in Montreal recommends (mandates) the transfer oil and the rear differential oil (yes, they are the same) to be replaced at 48,000 km (30,000 miles).
The specs for the oil: hypoid gear oil, API GL-5, SAE 80.
Mitsubishi Canada does not dictate centrally but rather empowered the local dealerships to set the maintenance plans for different regions (I have a written statement from them). Here in Montreal we have something between the regular and the severe plans. I assume the plans differ even more in the US, where the climate is much more diverse from region to region.

Seems like your dealership is following the severe maintenance schedule. According to the schedule found here: https://www.mitsubishicars.com/owner...nance-schedule
My OS was originally from Toronto I believe. Most of the KMs were driven there. Could not get any information on maintenance of the vehicle. I figured I should change the transfer and rear differential just in case it was not, preventative maintenance and all.
Reading a thread on the lancer forums some change them as often as 10k miles because of the all the metal shaving and dirt they find. Mind you most track their cars.
Trying to be a DIYer just wanted some direction (hoping instructions
) and input from some of the OS drivers here.

I am almost sure that your fluids have been replaced already but I agree with your decision to change them if there is no record. You might want to contact Mitsubishi Canada and request a service history for your vehicle. I hope the dealerships deposit their record to a centralized system. This would be logical given the long powertrain warranty. Good luck.
