CVT Transmission Cooler
CVT Transmission Cooler
I am curious to know if anyone on here has installed an auxiliary transmission cooler on their CVT model? I have the factory cooler already but would like to add another. I am thinking about the RRM cooler but have also used ones from online on other vehicles with great results. Just would like to read any reviews or inputs from fellow Os owners!
Thanks all 👍
Thanks all 👍
I plan on using a large GM based stack plate version (had from you my wife's Old Saturn Vue.) She has the Outlander 3 row and I have the Sport
The stock cooler is 9.875"W x 5"H x 1.375"T for a total of 68.75 cu in
This one is 11"W x 5.5625"H x 1.5"T for a total of 92.81 cu in or 35% larger using the superior stacked plate design (more heat transfer). I was also thinking about using a fog light as a duct for a hidden cooler to supplement the existing one. Then I can close it in the winter to keep up operating temps.

Really good guide on the different cooler types. http://transmissionrepairguy.com/transmission-cooler/

Thanks mate, I have since added a large Hayden trans cooler to the front. I attached it to my AC/Condensor since that sits in front of the radiator. Have the custom bumper setup it's tucked back for a bit of protection but also gets hit with a good amount of cool air. The one you found looks nice as well!
This is a couple of years late, but my Mitsubishi dealer recommended using AAMCO to install their own transmission cooler for my OS. It has been great with no problems to date after pulling a combined 1,200lbs. of camping trailer, supplies and two adults over 7,000 miles in flat and mountain conditions. My dealer also recommended changing the CVT fluid at least annually, which I'm certain has contributed to the favorable results. Hope this is helpful to those who want to be able to tow with their OS.
Transmission Fluid Change
Good afternoon, ASX_Billy!
Changing the transmission fluid annually was recommended by the dealership because we are pulling the camping trailer on a regular basis; it's not for everyday driving. For everyday driving only, the recommendation is 30,000 miles, so you are being proactive at 25,000 miles. We can tell by the way the CVT shifts when we're getting close to needing to have the transmission fluid changed if it's less than a year as the shifting starts to become choppy and not smooth. Hope this information helps!
