I just want something smooth for my back.
Yes, unless you are tracking your car quite a bit or like to have the adjustability on the street, its too much of a hassle. And if you are in the $2500+ range, I would get:
Ohlins
Bilstein
Zeal
KW

This month's Dsport had a good writeup about coil overs, and they compared about 15 different ones. Having !n+1 adjusments is really cool............if you know how to use them. For the average Joe (reading thru 5 pages of opinions here) it's pretty obvious what you guys need is something with adjustable perches, just to lower the car moreso than dampen/rebound adjustments of the struts themselves. The strut itself only dampens the harsh impact and keeps the spring from oscillating (sp?) after movement. Quality or, what's the 'best' coilover is a very vague question, as the strut manufacturer is not going to be the same as who makes the spring itself.
Also, the real purpose behind having them is to weight jack...aka balance your car. Applying more pressure at one end of your car 'fakes' weight bias, so proper setup requires 4 scales on top of alignment and camber adjustment.

Your top tier coilovers are Robispec KW's, Ohlins, and PSS9 in the $2500 and under. All the Tein, Cusco, HKS, etc all stiff valving which isn't that great and have short strokes. They are meant for smooth roads and most have not so optimal springrates. IE: motion ratio of the car is unbalanced.
Another option is the Stance AL+ Pro or PIC TSO select coilovers. Both are popular and are custom made with any Swift springrate you want with custom valving. Both are around the $1800-$2000 range and are quite good. DTM has been dominating time attack on the custom Stances. Both ride fairly well too.
If you want pretty good handling, OEM quality and the best ride quality you are looking at Bilstein PSS9. They are $1700 and are really nice and can easily be revalved and get custom springrates later on. Thats my opinion atleast. Get the JDM brands if you are going more for flashy looks.
HazelWood buick and GM
Well, I gad a 2g for almost two years, and that thing sat SO low.. so we will see.
