You are just doing your research.. last thing you want to do is get something you don't want and spend extra $$$ to get what you want or regret your decision. Where the GSC S1's even in that test? I don't remember it being in there.
Ok, so I've been having an issue with my Evo's transmission since I got it with 12,000 miles on it, and it has 25,000 now. It isn't getting any worse just annoying. I've taken it to the dealership and they have told me they don't see anything wrong. So now I ask the experts which isn't the dealership..
Here are the symptoms.
So what do you guys think? Was thinking of having you guys test it at a meet or something.
Here are the symptoms.
- Shiftying from 1 - 2 is very notchy sometime even grindy especially when cold.
- When shifting and pulling down from first to second it will actually pop out of gear once I put the slightest amount of pressure on it.
- Another thing is that when shifting into first I can feel a slight engagement. This typically happens when I've had it idling in neutral.
- The last thing is what I hear from most people is the engagement point for the clutch is all over the place. It feels like it is either on or off. In reverse I can release the clutch slowly and back up smoothly and consistently, but going from stop to moving forward is not smooth. It is like it is missing the whole mid range of the clutch where it doesn’t engage and when it does my rpms drop drastically and makes it sum what stall. This is typically the problem in traffic since I don't have open road in front of me. I’ve been driving sticks all my life and haven’t had to deal with this type of clutch engagement before. Plus the engagement issue is mostly in the low rpm range 2 – 3k. Above 3 it isn't to bad, but by then the car has enough power to pull thru the rpm drop.

I appreciate the help guys..
PS.. Yes still Stock Clutch.
Anybody getting together somewhere southern-ish this weekend? I need a good reason to take the EVO out and get some good driving in before we have rain for 6 months straight

If you were closer I would help. On the brakes Ferodo's aren't usually the cheapest solution although probably one of the best all around pads. They are around $290-300 for F&R depending on who you buy them from (CVR Motorsports are usually fairly cheap). I planned on getting those but one thing I didn't like is they can sometimes be noisy and they tend to dust alot.
I went with the Performance Friction Z-rated pads. They have the same MOT of 1200 degrees and are very similiar in design. AMS prefers these pads alot for mild tracking and daily driving. They are better in every way than the stock pad. Only thing is it takes 1-2 stops before they have the cold bit the stockers did. Btw I got F&R for $195 SHIPPED from CVR and they have worked great at the track and are as quiet as stock for the most part.
Also another option is the Girodisk magic pads. They tend to have good reviews as does almost everything girodisk. They aren't quite as aggressive as the two above but are cheaper and dust the least. Good for strictly dd.

So, CVR Motorsports may have the best prices but my experience showed them to be liars concerned only with getting your cash.
I ended up getting the rotors from padsandrotors.com, totally pleased with them. For Ferodos, I have had good experiences with raceshoper.com.
