Pulled a possible boner today that I've never done before. I might have overfilled my oil.

I had a partial quart (about 1/2) sitting around and I used that to fill the filter before putting it on. I then put in 4 full quarts and ran the car. I checked the dipstick and it was just over the lower mark. I meant to put in another 1/4 quart but I clearly wasn't paying attention and went closer to 1/2 quart.

The dipstick now reads just 1mm or 2mm above the max line. I know about overfilling where the crank can splash the oil but wanted to know what ya'll think. I'd hate to have issues on the way down to ER.

I have to check it again tomorrow when I am able to run the car for a bit longer. I could just drain some out to be safe. Dammit!

you're screwed. There are too many oil molecules in one place now.... They are going to start eating away your motor.

haha just kidding it'll be fine, I think i've done the same thing before.

Fortunately I've done my oil enough to not take your comment seriously. Unfortunately I tend to lean toward paranoia!

It shouldn't be enough of an overfill to worry about, though I still gotta take the car out and let it get warmed properly, but I'd hate to find out I was wrong when on I-5 S near the Dike Access road on the way to ER tomorrow!

do you always access your dike at 1/4 over half-barrel?

Personally I access my dike at the reccomended setting. Too much lube and its like sloppy seconds.
