@freshjuicebox, didn't know you sold your Evo! I've been looking out for it, now I know why it's been gone from the mall parking lot, haha. Miata looks good!

Just curious. How many around here have heard the upsetting sound of your front lip running against pavement? I know Seattle has terrible roads but you can be anywhere and overlook a quick drop and sudden curb.

I screwed up on my withholdings (I adjust them quarterly) so this year I owe more than I’ve ever owed. $18.45

I am completely ashamed the calculations were so far off!

BTW: you do realize that a "big refund" is really just you shortchanging yourself all year by giving the gov a interest free loan with 0.90 on the dollar coming back to you...... riiiiiiiight?

Being proud of getting a big tax refund is like being proud you got beat up by the class bully.

I completely understand how all of that works. I use to volenter to do taxes for VITA for the military guys. Thanks Ryan... My huge tax refund is because of my 90k dollar bonus I got this year and I'm a sinlge parent on top of that. When you get a bonus in the military, the gov takes 22-24%. do that math

Mikey

Still unsure how you would have a big refund if you knew how it worked and could have had withholdings taken from the bonus.

However, good on you for getting such a large bonus from the Military! Didnt know they ever actually paid bonus' out... (My buddy has been waiting for his $20K from the big catbox for the past 2 years)

Half the time they usually do and the other half they usually screw it all up in the process or just screw up your pay in general. Mikey is one of the few that still get bonuses in the Navy, every job is just about overmanned now so most of us don't get bonuses and probably never will.

We're all adults Ryan, I don't think anyone is shocked to learn that. There are circumstances that keep people from making withholding changes such as known changes in income (but not precisely known), changes in deductible interest (again, not precisely known), etc. Also, I think most people would prefer to get money in the end as opposed to pay money in the end. I know I got burned badly when I was younger so I prefer to under-estimate my withholdings and get some out the end.

Personally these last two years have been funky for me with multiple jobs, unemployment, property appraisal changes, etc. Claiming 7 on my w-4, I still got every cent back that I paid! I've gotten to the point on my w-4's in the past where making changes didn't seem to effect the withholding as much so I just stopped making changes, but I don't know if that was an error or if the change happens to be a bit exponential.

What I do know is that the money is usually spent before I even get it. I suppose some $$$ will go to booze though.

It's not a big deal to me, I prefer receiving money back at the end of the year.
