I'm considering filing jointly Ryan. I make more than my wife by a good bit... i think if we filed jointly it would put us in a (combined) lower tax bracket and bring me more bacon. let me know if my logic is reasonable.

There are clients who pay $100K or more in taxes and owe more at the end of the year, and clients who make $100K or more per year and pay nothing. It all depends on how you pay your taxes (or if you lost a few million in the past and have a nice net operating loss carryforward)

A pretty sound policy is that if you file jointly or seperate you will both be paying taxes. MFJ (married filing jointly) has a few bonuses to make it a benefit.

In general is no mathematical way that making less earns you more (taking base W-2 income and associated tax bracket). Example: If you made $1 less than the tax bracket threshold you would not end up with MORE money in your pocket at the end of the day than if you made $1 more than the bracket threshold. Each tax bracket has associated assumptions or calculations based on that income level.

Also; "You cant spend your way to victory". Meaning that having money in your pocket is ALWAYS better than spending money to gain a tax advantage. (from a pure monetary standpoint, not a philanthropic standpoint)

Hate to bring up the enemy vehicle here but a buddy of mine has a 2011 Subie WRX hatch. Non-Sti. He's putting down 430hp on the STOCK turbo? As in; the turbo that came on his car. he has an upgraded top mount intercooler, intercooler piping, perrin 4inch intake, full turbo back exhaust and is e-tuned on a Cobb Stage 2 map at 19.1psi. Does anyone know about the EJ25 or the turbo they use? Is the WRX factory turbo really that much stronger than..(gulp..) our Evo????

HP or WHP? Everything I've read, soon as they do ANYTHING they have to upgrade the turbo which is a huge under taking.

I bet that is right, HP, not WHP.

My buddy had a 2011 WRX with bolt ons and I would pull away from him with just a TBE... He didnt like that much.

On a side note... Dick's has 2 for 1 burgers today... You know Ill be hitting that up!

That's EXACTLY what I thought!!!!! I heard the numbers are something around 320whp and after that, it's upgrade time. But I mentioned that to him and I got the wierd eye. He then tells me that there is another 2011 Subie with right around the same bolt ons but its putting down 350hp. I can't help but to put on the following facial expression...

Yea. Again, I'm starting to think about what you guys are mentioning. it could be power at the crank, and not actual wheel horse power. We haven't really had the chance to experiment though. Once my new Spec clutch is broken in, I'm heading to English for a retune to up the boost just a tad since my previous tune on the stock clutch was MEGA conservative! Once I do that..then we should be even on numbers for actual whp, and then we'll see what's up.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the meet this weekend. I'm taking off my crappy spoiler (base model '08+up Lancer spoiler) and showing up wingless for the first time! If I can find the right plugs for the holes, I'll leave it that way until I can get the factory MR high rise spoiler.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I know a few other people with 2011 Sti sedans. They told me that 430 sounded a bit high for the stock turbo and told me to check out Cobb's website for the actual dyno results with different mods done to specific customer cars AND at what boost level. So guess what the funny thing was.... one guy.. ONE lone soldier put down 326hp/374tq at 19psi on a Stage 2 tune...WITH "E85" added! That was the highest power output on a 2011 WRX hatch.

Thats still more than I put down with a failing fuel pump and leaky wastegate. So it sounds about right for a subaru in good shape and with 60K fewer miles

I wouldn't believe anything over 360whp without a dyno sheet.
