restoring wrecked evo 8

Was browsing around and found a thread on here of a project similar to mine which inspired me to start this thread. So last year I ended up purchasing a non running evo 8 with some front end damage. The car did not start and after messing around I found that if you push the key towards the ignition lock cylinder the car will start. As for the front end damage the hood will need to be replaced along with both headlights, both fenders, lip and bumper cover, radiator and radiator fan, a/c condenser and condenser fan, front crash beam, and core support. Both airbags did deploy so those will be replaced as well along with the dash panel and both front seat belts. I have slowly been working on the car and didn't know I was gonna start a thread so I didn't take pictures of all the progress as much as I should have.

Here is what it looked like the day it got delivered.

From the very beginning my plan was to purchase body parts in apex silver so that I wouldn't have to paint the car. I was able to purchase a decent hood and two fenders, however i was unable to find a lip and bumper cover and ended up purchasing an apex silver bumper cover that needed to be repainted along with a lip that was tb. So what I decided to do is repaint the bumper cover myself along with the lip, I have a local paintshop that will put any paint color in an aerosol can and I used their paint before when I repainted my hood scoop on my wrx.

Here is the hood

I don't have any pics of the fenders, they are currently on the car.

I ended up purchasing a set of mismatched hid headlights which I opened up and blacked out, did the amber corner mod, and demon eye mod while I had them open. Plenty pictures and can be found on the thread I started here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...lots-pics.html

So I sanded the lip down filled some scratches, primered it and painted the lip with a31 apex silver that my local paint shop put in an aerosol can. Color match is spot on!

Here is the lip next to the bumper cover, as you can tell the bumper cover needs some work

I could have done a better job on the sideskirt because you can kinda tell where the gouges were but it still looks way better than it it did.

Now this is where I am at today trying to fix the bumper cover. All previous pictures and progress were already done thats why I posted all in one day. Yesterday I sanded the parts of the bumper cover down to bare plastic that were peeling/flaking.

here is how bad the peeling/flaking was, I have only one picture before I began sanding but most of the lower bumper cover was flaking off and a couple of spots on the upper part on the passenger side

After sanding down the stuff that was peeling I scuffed the clear coat because I will be reclearing after I paint the lower part

Awesome man. Good to see someone restoring one instead of just parting it out. Theres likely less than 7500 8/9s left in the states. Keep it going.

Yeah sadly I see a lot of people parting out evos that could have been easily fixed. After getting an evo and seeing the price on parts I could see why people part them out, even used parts are very expensive! Ive restored several subarus as well and for the price of a used evo part you can purchase a brand new part of the same type for a subaru! But hey I got an evo lol

it was too cold to do any paintwork today so I replaced the blown airbags and dash panel a long with both seat belts and airbag control module.

Very nice!
Keep up the good work. That paint in the aerosol can turned out looking great! I might have to do that on my lip.

Still havent painted the bumper cover, its been cold for the past week, i'm probably gonna have to rig up a paint booth. Made cooling fan mounting brackets for the slim fan that i'm installing on the mishimoto.
