Got my X tuned on e85 by harvey aka The Boost Creep up here in Colorado, and I couldn't be happier.
Dropped the car off, and it pulled a base line of about 350 at the wheels (all numbers are corrected for 5000 ft elevation, and on a Dyno dynamics rig). After that he went to work. About 4 hrs later I get the call that the car is done, and he was excited to talk to me about the results.
He primarily does subarus, but tunes almost anything.
Low boost map: 430 Whp
High boost map: 460 whp
And the lovingly named "honeybadger map": just shy of 480
The two higher maps were held back by fueling issues, so once I address that, honeybadger all day baby!!! He's sure that if I were to get something like a surge tank to handle the demand, 500 isn't out of the question at all.
Personally I feel a surge tank is a little overkill, but we will take it one step at a time. First is to remove the 10 micron filter I have in place to see what kind of flow restriction I'm getting.
Edit: the filter I have is a 40 micron, so I digress. Next step: swap to an e85 version of the wally 400 and the hard wire kit.

AND YOU ALL THOUGHT THIS STORY WAS OVER!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!
well, to be honest, i did too. But such is life that when you think youre done working on your evo, it reminds you that youre NEVER done. :-(
Unfortunalty, turbo numero dose has gone to the big pearly engine bay in the sky.
I wasnt logging, but i had downshifted to 4th on the highwat to get away from a wrx that was weaving in and out of lanes like he was drunk. Got into it, and at about 6500 rpm, a very loud afterfire, then suddenly i was driving an NA lancer. :-(
Stopped at a gas station to see if maybe it was a coupler, and it wasnt. Also, no turbine sound at all.
As this all sounds strangely familiar to my stock turbo incident, i havent brought myself to dig into it at the moment. (Also, the engine is quite hot. Lol)
So im now on the lookout for a new turbo. REALLY want to stay stock frame, as i want to keep the cost down, as well as response.
Im going to hit up boost resource to see about the bolt on efr units, and an eta of them, as well as look on the forums/craigslist for a replacement.
Ill keep this updated as things go on.

Oh no! That's no good to hear! Well, fortunately you've already got the right mindset for looking for a new snail. The EFR would be a great stock frame. I've been contemplating the Red or EFR, but mostly because of funding. Can't wait to see the decision and aftermath!

And an update to my predicament:
Picked up a lightly used MAP EF4 that im going to send to get rebuilt for the warm fuzzies.
Once that comes back, tuning will ensue. Not looking to get more power at this time, but will be less work for the turbo on the same power.

FYI, MAP turbos are known to be a bit spotty with reliability. I would have gone with an MHI18k and called it a day.
