Kyoo's Crash & Rebuild Thread

Not to clutter the Sup with them Projects thread, I'm going to post most of what's going on with the car here.

Spun the car into a tire wall on track on 10/14/19. Cold temps & tires and the car bit me in an awkward place. I was planning to go so slow for the session that I didn't even bother recording it.

Initial estimates with all-new parts from a well-known auto body shop here was about 11.5k, plus any other damage they find once they get in. I think I can cut at least a few grand by getting used parts. There is some bending to the "frame," but nothing bad. They have a laser frame aligner here, so they can bend it back, and otherwise didn't seem to think much of it. The crash beam no question saved the car from being totaled. I once toyed with pulling it off the car, what a mistake that would have been.

I also got under the car today to see what kind of damage there would be underneath - and to see if a cv joint was torn that was causing a popping noise I heard when turning the car full crank to the left.

Can anyone spot anything glaring? Aside from the pass side toe-arm boot being torn, I can't spot anything..

Take the hood lights and fenders off to assess. You can get lots of body parts on the various evo facebook for sale pages. Maybe take an insurance payout and fix it yourself.

Sad to see such a clean evo go through this. I was hoping youd make a thread, im interested in seeing the repair process (its also an opportunity to upgrade parts :P). I removed the crash bar off my evo 9 to fit the intercooler and am always nervous about it. I figured if the crash is that bad, who cares anyway but in crashes like this its a lifesaver. I totalled my 8 RS in similar fall conditions. The cold pavement and damp spots made it unpredictable, tires didn't help.

appreciate it. body shop is going to handle most of it, but i'm hoping they can bring it back to what it was - they said they could, so let's hope.

no question the crash bar saved the car. i'm totally an advocate for it now - and not the stock one, that is designed to crumple. the frame took the brunt of the force with this one but definitely saved everything behind it. hammered bits of the intercooler straight again, just hurts seeing a brand new LICP get mangled the way it did

Boots don't need to be torn for a CV to go bad. If the car is on stands throw it in first and let the wheels spin at idle and check for noises.

Noooo great that you're fixing it and that you're ok! Hopefully it doesn't take forever to fix, sending some good vibes your way.

If it's not on a public road there's a 99% chance insurance won't cover it unless you have track insurance.

Not to sound like a broken record, but I highly suggest getting track coverage moving forward. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
