mirage cj1a to evo 6 conversion (3.8 liters + turbo)

Hi all. So after completing my previous project Airtrek 2.4l + Mivec(evo 9) + AT + speed density + ..., I decided to take the evo 5/6 platform

So, a mirage cj was bought for a new project

Four-wheel drive, it was decided to do from the factory bottom of the Evo 5/6, so the back of the Evo 5 was bought (bottom + shock absorber body).

The difference from the native in the drain holes and small things due to the interior.

We sawed out everything unnecessary and the priest from the Evo 5 entered like a native. Everything fits on the welding points like a factory one, at the same time everything was cleaned and reinforced with metal and a frame at the back and got rid of space for a spare wheel.

Were also bought all evo 6 aluminum arms and driveshafts. As a result of the installation, the base became wider and I had to make a widebody.

More or less completed work on the expansion of the back wings, but there are small nuances that we will eliminate when painting

Front wings, bumper and bonnet

Wow that's an awesome project. I really like your execution, not just some aesthetic creation, but the real deal.

Thank you sir!

A little in the cabin.
Updated steering wheel on Nardi
The AMS manual transmission handle also remained, she is already 8 years old, but she looks quite

A rocker panel was also added (I don't know how to correctly in English)

Was bought new tires toyo proxes r888r 245/40 r17

Wheels Enkei RP01 R17 9J ET + 22, have a non-child offset. But due to the widebody, the wheels are still buried in the arches.
Therefore, I had to throw spacers + 25mm.
The wheel is flush with the arch and side mirrors

Long thought what kind of engine to put. Forged 4g64t from the previous project or 6a13tt

preparation for installation a 6a13tt twin turbo from galant vr4

Exhaust video

Bought suspension kw var 3
I adjusted it in height, played a little with the settings and was very surprised how the suspension began to work. So far this is the best I've tried 😁

In general, in this configuration, I left for about two months, after which I decided to put another engine
Contract engine 3.8 liters. Purchased assembled along with documents.
Claimed mileage 22k. Further disassembly / troubleshooting, etc.

Bought heads from pajero evolution (two camshafts, each with an additional cam (like Honda VTEC), phase about 305*)

A short disassembly video

Most of them will go to aquablast, we will wash something in a regular car wash

Pulsar gen2 gtx3584rs. The manufacturer claims ~89 lbs/min, i.e. about 800 hp.
And V-band twin scroll A/R.83 hot side

Thanks for the comment

rods
I monitored the available options on 6g74 / 75, in total we have (at the beginning of 2022):
pauter $1476

3sx $690

Brian Crower $600

Spool $501

Most of them are no longer produced, some are made to order. The average price of a set of H-beam rods is about $600 + shipping. Against the background of H-beam, pauter looks much more interesting, but the price tag is appropriate. It is clear that all this is done by the Chinese brothers. Therefore, why not try to order a connecting rod for my wishlist.

A drawing of the connecting rod was made and the deadlines were agreed. It took 3 months for everything.
The rods came in a big box with a weight of about 9kg

We tried aquablasting as a surface cleaning, the result cannot but rejoice 😍
Before processing, all critical places were glued with a glue gun, but it’s clear that I’ll still rinse everything thoroughly and more than once.

Sorryt for my english
After getting involved in this prodigal business, it was necessary to finish the control software for the internal combustion engine and automatic transmission for 6 cylinders. There have already been attempts in this direction, but due to the lack of some equipment, they were postponed for a while.
The standard functionality of the vr-4 ecu would not be enough for me, because i need to at least control the Mivec and dampers in the intake manifold and get rid of the plug on the inlet in the form of a maf. And in general, the approach to setting up a car has changed over 20 years and the software is morally outdated.
Fortunately, the mirage from 6a13 has not yet been dismantled and sadly stood in the garage.

My universal software for 4 cyl engines and automatic control unit lancer 9 / airtrek / evo gta on the sh7055 processor were taken as the basis.

The task can be divided into 2 stages
1) hardware
2) software
Hardware
All mitsubishi blocks are unified and made almost one to one. That makes it possible to cover the entire model range with one software and this is a huge plus.
The second huge plus is that there are a lot of empty areas on the printed circuit board that are not used and can be used for your Wishlist. In this task, we need 2 more channels for injectors and one channel for the ignition coil. We look at the board and find the places where they should stand.
Photo of one of the sides of the control unit with the necessary sites

Thus, we get full-fledged 6 injectors without any collective farm and snot. And our hardware issue was resolved without even starting 😁

Program
Everything is much more interesting here. To implement it, you need to understand some points:
1) what is the order of operation of the cylinders
2) what phase of injection on v6
3) operation of ignition coils
4) a reference waveform of the knee and camshaft sensors (in order to be able to write the synchronization and determination of the TDC of each cylinder)
5) calculation of coil charging time and engine speed
6) ...

Well, the most important point is the complete analysis and understanding of the crankshaft + camshaft position sensor interrupt code. Which are directly responsible for the process of determining the cylinders, generating a signal to the ignition coils and injectors. I think the one who climbed there at least once was at least in a culture shock 😁 Although in fact this is only the beginning of the iceberg. Further, I think it makes no sense to paint program cases, because the reader is usually not interested in the word at all.

An adapter was also made to standard wiring for testing an alien control unit.

At the end of the summer, the first version of the software for v6 was prepared and the first attempts to launch 6a13tt vr4 on a speed density and a 4-cylinder control unit. The engine willingly kicked fuel assemblies at the inlet and outlet, but refused to start. At that time, I had little time to figure out the problem, because. this time is the season of racing and car customization. And then I didn’t have the necessary diagnostic equipment. Everything went on the back burner.

In December, it was decided to buy a motor tester (9-channel oscilloscope), because. machines take more and more time (if not all).
I took the waveform I needed from the car in which we installed 6a12 mivec

Well, then it's a matter of technology. When not now in the cold in the garage to do this 😑
We take an oscillogram from my test subject and analyze it, a logger with the ability to quickly log was also useful, which made it possible to see the operation of each cylinder in the log.
From where it became clear that the ignition coils are working as expected, there is synchro on the cylinders, but the injection phase has left me.
In general, I will not soar your brain 😁

Say hello to 6a13tt on the speed density with a huge amount of sports features
