Starter motor location

I think I have a bad starter and want to remove/test it but I can't find it! I know it is behind a shield but I can't see that either. I have removed the plastic undertray. Do I need to remove anything else to reveal it?

It's on the front of the engine, top side, towards the transmission. (same basic location for the MR & GSR.) Should be accessible from below.
