really bad knock all of a sudden
Those sparkplugs look fine.
I know that in one of these cases the culprit was a bad wastegate. Have you tightened that at all? Perhaps take a look at that since you seem to hit knock counts the second boost should be coming on?
Good luck man.

ok I swapped the fuel pump relay, even though the highbeams look fine...
i added a bunch of fuel and lowered the timing and the knock has gone.
...well seems to have gone...
i did about 5 spool tests, so starting at 2700 and going until 4000rpm.
absolutley no noises and no knocksum registering... its hot out today as well ~35C
HOWEVER my AFR's during spool are still lean, ie 13.5AFR @ 15psi, 12.5AFR @ 20psi.
WHY can't I bring the AFR's richer?? This has _always_ been a problem with the X and kinda why I havn't worried about lean AFR's during spool - but now obviously I am curious..
someone mentioned something todo with cooling/heating affect on the WB02 sensor.
this is a brand new sensor as well, calibrated/installed yesterday with the downpipe...

by the way tepra, i think i have bad gas . My evo x is a garage queen, it's a 2008, i bought it new 2 years ago, got 1200 miles now and believed its been at gas station only 5 times. 5 fill up. 3 months ago, we did a dyno tune with brand new 93 shell gas. car feel faster and no noise or anything until this week. Heard some weird noise on the engine bay now, sound like clicking too. My full tank of gas last me around 4 months , is that bad?
Your fuel pump might be failing or a injector. Check your FPR, and Fuel Pressure at the rail. I seen it before with a failing fuel pump. It doesn't switch properly to the higher voltage output.

well my last good pull was the 25th - which was 1 day before I filled up - 0 knock, decent power
however I don't have an AFR from that pull because my WBO2 basically started to fail around that time (hence the new downpipe + wb sensor)
i dont really have the tools to test fuel rail pressure

and you're tuned for what psi again? 26ish? have you tried increasing the timing on the map on the higher load cells? i've heard, (haven't given this much thought though as to how it would actually happen) that if you have too little timing then it can actually cause knock. meaning, if you increase your boost you should increase the timing at higher loads to mimic those that were previously used. i know i did this personally where i was getting knock at higher load cells and no matter what i did to the fuel it would still knock. i added timing to that area and the knock went away, could have been coincidence though i guess. Have you also tried the 100 octane fuel for a tank to see if it goes away? that would help narrow it down i would think.
Actually, if you look at the plugs a little closer, the third plug looks a little more moist and not as sooted up as the others. Did that one come out of the low compression cylinder?

well I am going to stick my old timing back in, but add 1.5 points of fuel to the fuel map.
then do a pull.
if my AFR is still lean then its a fueling issue... pump/injectors/filter/gas maybe...
given the 10 or so spool test's i have done so far have been fine I am beginning to think its gas or relay...

Have you been able to get the car to 'tip in' richer yet??
Your pm box is full, but I would love to lend a helping hand here.
