04 EVO 8 build thread

I suppose it is about time i post a build thread. So I bought the car a little over a month ago now, and I just received it today as it was shipped from West Virginia to Tacoma WA. I paid 8250 for the car, it has 87k miles. and as you can see from the pictures it needs quite a bit of work. The car came with most everything it needed except for: Cams, cam gears, intercooler setup, ecu, injectors, fuel rail and of course little odds and ends here and there. Seeings how i already have an evo and its got built head, block trand and t case. I might as well make one car a nice DD and one a nice weekend warrior. I have decided to make the newest addition the weekend car. I will be pulling all of the build parts out the original evo and putting them into the new one. the goal for the car is 700awhp on e85 reliably, id be happy with 500 on pump 92.

The car did have a little work done to it when i got it. IT already has Tien coils with EDFC, carbon fiber hood, double din radio, Enkie RP01 18x9.5 wheels and a few things. But the biggest was the Wire tuck that was started. yes it will look great once its completed... assuming i can find out where all the wires go. there are quite a few that have been cut and not marked so tracing them out will be a ***** (can i say that word without getting in trouble?) I am not the best at electrical **** but i suppose it will be a good learning experience. If there are any wiring geniuses out there that happen to stumble upon this thread and have an input please please PLEASE hit me up!

Since I paid for the car about a month ago i have acquired quite a few parts at some really good deals. Im sure most of you have seen these hotside parts for sale for quite some time now, but i really liked how they looked and i wanted something that no one else has. Also got a brand new 6262 Gen 1 Ball Bearing for $1200 (pretty stoked about that) and i got a magnus with two magnus fuel rails and a q45 90mm TB for $1100 off the poonana evo. I got a Full blown double pumper with two AEM 320 e85 fuel pumps, and i also got an AEM v1 ECU. I went with the V1 simply because i got it for $400 with two serial gauges. it was much cheaper than the V2 or infinity series. I am also close to Speed Factory and they hooked me up with a set of titanium exhaust manifold studs. pretty excited to see how they are going to look on this white lightning coated exhaust manifold.

I will update this build as I go along. I work weekdays so more than likely when its dark out in the weekends is when i will update lol. if you guys have any input please feel free to say so.

Now that the thread is started... I was able to work for about 5 hours today on the car. I was able to get the cams installed, as well as the rocker arms. But most of my time was spent on the wiring. i did my best go get most all of it taken care of on the inside the car as the engine bay needs a significant amount of work. I believe i was able to get all the wiring outside and into the engine bay today. I also was able to install the AEM ECU, double din head unit, HVAC, and even the the speedo. i did not put bolts in the dash because i have the worst luck in the world and i know that dash is coming off at least 10 more times before the car is ready... -_-

I was happy with the way that the interior is coming along. hoping that i can finish wiring it up here tomorrow and start on the engine bay goodies.

Again any insight would be great! thanks alot fellas.

very nice build brother, love the purple valvecover, amazing turbo choice, and the white hotside parts look amazing, I have my block apart right now, car is just collecting dust as my funds are stacking up, my build is more of a super fun street build, 2.3 liter small stock frame turbo etc.. the magnus with 2 rails, both rails are used?? how does that work?

yeah that 2.3l will be a lot of fun! i have a 2.0 just because i love revving to the moon and back lol. for both the fuel rails i have the feed to one and where it would normally go into the FPR, i need to loop it back into the secondary rail. and from the secondary rail it will feed into the FPR. Im not 100% sure if i am going to use the second set or just fill the holes with a set of injectors. I have a set of 1650 that i was going to use as the primary and thats enough for what i want.

Thanks to the extra hour from daylight savings time i was able to work a little extra. There are a few parts that are missing like cam sensor, radiator brackets, hood latch, crank sensor and all the light bulbs. not a big deal as i have a guy that parts out evos all the time and he has most of that stuff he said he can send me. i do need either a new ABS unit or i might just get an STM ABS delete. the delete will more than likely be a bit easier.

I got quite a bit done today. most of the wiring! still need to find where some of the wires go, quite a few were cut and i need to see if they are important or not. I was also able to install the brand new titanium exhaust manifold studs and might i add they look amazing! i was able to bolt up the manifold, put on the turbo as well as the downpipe, mount the intercooler, put on the intake manifold, as well as the mark the changes that i will need for the UICP. Tomorrow my oil lines for the turbo should be here so i should be able to make those and put them on to seal up the turbo. i ended up, of course, having to pull the dash out the car already. the damn throttle cable was not hooked up the petal lol. but out of everything that i did today i was most proud of the wax that i did. i use nothing but griots products on my car and it shows. it came out great! as you can see in one of the pics below. I just decided that the dirt was just too annoying so i had to wash it, which also gave me a chance to really inspect the car and see how the paint was. nothing unusual, the paint looked great just rock chips here and ther but for an 04 i wouldnt expect any less. got a lot done today really happy with how the day went.

Not much happened today. the Oil lines came in. I was able to get them measured out, and installed the fittings. I ran into a bit of a snag, where it comes out of the head, there it comes REALLY close to the headers. So i am not sure what to do there. the headers are lightning coated so they should not as hot but they are going to get hella hot none the less. Also the fitting that i bought from Precision does not fit the Precision Turbo. Kind of annoying.... i emailed them awaiting response. Not sure what to do about the oil feed line tho. kinda scares me. i will post pictures tomorrow of what it looks like and how close it is.

Car is getting there! Fuel pumps are wired and installed. just need to put the car on a lift so i can run the lines. Also i did quite a bit of wiring today i found a few other plugs that needed. I was also able to clean up the engine bay quite a bit. made it look mice an need as well as a little cleaner. put the bumper on to see how it looked with the IC and see if it fit. Came out pretty well. fits nice without the chicken wire. Need to finish up the Nose chop and reclear the CF hood and the body will be all set and good to go. The Oil feed line 90degree out of the head does touch the headers.. going to have to find a work around for that. and the oil feed line is REALLY close to the downpipe... Looks like i might just have to have an up pipe fabbed up pie cut or course lol

There are no pics right now but i was able to get the whole interior put back together. Hoping i font run into any issues and have to pull all that **** off again. Hope you guys are enjoying the build. getting there slowly but surely.

Today i found a few wires that i installed wrong... so i had to rip the dash all apart again, pull the whole engine bay harness through the firewall and re run it all over again. but i was able to get the plugs that i needed as well as make the bay look super clean. waiting for more parts to get here.

Still need the following parts:
-ABS delete
-Cam Gear Bolts
-hood latch
-hood prop
-Cam position sensor
-air bag sensor
-radiator brackets
-in line fuel filter
-a bunch of fuel line fittings
-Fuel Pressure Regulator
-water lines/fittings for turbo
-oil feed line fitting for turbo

List of things still need to be done:
-run fuel return line
-figure out where to put the battery
-wire up the car for power
-install parts from above
-find a place for huge catch can
-install Radiator
-a **** load more i cant remeber becasue its late

Well is been 9 days since the last time I updated this thread so here goes.

Still waiting on parts, my Magnus FPR should be here tomorrow, and all the fittings for my Fuel feed line should be here at the end of the week. I was able to cut and fit the UICP as well as get rid of the old ****ty fuel lines and i ran the Return as i already had the fittings and line for that. But other than that i am at a stalemate until i get more money for more parts and get them here. Should be ordering Cam gear bolts this week when i get around to it. I read up only how to wire in the second set of fuel injectors so hopefully i can do that once and get it over with. I am gong to use stock injectors for idle as well as just normal driving and then i am going to use the 1650s i have to try and make some power. Hopefully ordering the rest of the parts this week and getting this car ready to go. I have yet to hook up power and see what is actually working, will more than likely do that this weekend. i have decided i am just going to use a Mini Battery that should work and fit most importantly. The Oil Catch Can is a little to big for my engine bay so it looks like i need to buy a new one.

Here are a few pics after i got most of the stuff mounted. the CDI box as well as a few other things here and there. Radiator is installed. need about 1000000 more t blot clamps it feels like lol

Got some more updates

Monday the fittings will be here so i can start making the Fuel Feed lines. The Return was ran but not the feed yet. Getting some things in here and there. hopefully she will be able to be started up here in a week or two! For some reason I keep forgetting that i need to buy a mini battery tray. ill remember one of these days.... its getting down to the niddy griddy. been passing around the idea of going flex fuel instead of have pump map and e85 map... still up in there air. i will fill you in on what i decide in the future. Not to sure if the Flex fuel will even work on a AEM V1. if anyone knows please fill me in! Thanks for following my build cant wait for this one to be over so i can start another.

Magnus FPR came in and i was able to run the lines and mount that.

Just had to get a closeup of all the Magnus goodies

Mounted my AEM tru boost controller as well as got rid of the tissue that was plugging the hole for the Wastegate. Got the banjo fitting in.

I was finally able to get around to putting my AFR Gauge in and taking out that stupid Lancer emblem.

Another look after I put it all back together.

Cam gears are mounted (bolts have not came in yet) but i had to see how bad the timing is lol. Its way the **** off.

I had to recut the UICP yet again.... still does not fit the way i want it to but it will do until i can get one made that will actually fit the Magnus.

You can see the coupler just does not sit right, which will not get a good seal. bummer.
