CV boots cracking on otherwise perfect axles

I have a 2006 EVO that I was doing maintenance on and noticed that all of my axle CV boot are starting to crack. None of them have ripped but they are tired.

What is the best way to proactively fix this issue? Do I have to buy new axles or is there a specific boot I can replace it with?

Ideas?

Huh, I dunno. I've never hear of anyone replacing boots, always axles. The boots on my 14 year old Evo look like new but maybe you live where there is ozone. I did find the boot on the drive shaft Lobro joint completely gone this spring. You may want to check that too.

Boots aren't hard to replace but the job is messy.

You can get OEM boot replacement kits.

Unless you can stretch that boot over the ends of the axles that looks like a huge PITA to install.

Does one have to disassemble the axle???

Yes, the axle has to come apart. It's not hard to do, just pretty messy.

Correct. You can replace the boots.

Need a few special tools for the clamps and also for the snap ring holding in the joint.

It can be done but if you arent too car savvy id pay someone to do it.

Also will need a puller or air hammer to remove joint from shaft.

I want to see a picture of the cracks on the boots. Just curious.

If you are going to replace the outer boot then you might as well buy some used axles. The outer boots can be accessed by removing the inner boots. Considering the price of the rebuild kits at 67*2= $134 per axle you can easily find used axles for cheaper or the same price. Food for thought.

Used axles that are just as old and could have the same issue.

I replaced boots on an axle due to one getting a small cut in it and slinging grease everywhere. Wasn't too bad to do(except the axle being seized onto the hub). Cost like 140 after shipping getting them through STM. Make sure you have the tools for tightening the new clamps on.
