"For Sale" Forum Suggestion

No Newbies or Evolving Members should be allowed to sell items through this forum. Everyone should be required to make at least a small name for theirself first. Too many people are being scammed by "Newbies" and newer members. True, we could all just watch who we buy from, which is what I do, but wouldn't it be easier to impliment a rule keeping Newbies and Evolving Members from starting new threads in the Private For Sale forum?

Just a suggestion.

well, it takes 400 posts to become evolved =p i say if you're evolving, you can only link stuff on here from ebay, but can't sell directly through this site.

I can't differentiate between someone who posts 1 post and someone who posts 41 posts, especially if I am thinking about buying a couple of hundred dollars worth of stuff from them.

Know what I mean?

^^agreed

Do your own homework before buying from someone. No need to punish those who haven't been around for as long, or as active on the boards.

If we make the criteria evolving members only, they'll just spam the For Sale forum to get to 50 posts.

The solution seems pretty simple - if you can't get a name, address, phone #, etc from the guy - don't buy it. If it seems questionable still, see if you can get someone local to the seller to go look at it.

Make the "For Sale" forum like the O/T forum and the regional forums. Make it where posts there don't count towards your postcount.

but aren't there exceptions to the rule, like me for example. I am still an evolving member and already have a positive three rating. Granted they are all buying and not selling, but its still a positive rating. Just my 2 cents

OK, I have both posts and sales out the ying-yang, so I'm not worried. But as it was pointed out, if only Evolved members can sell things, we'll just have people making 400 worthless posts so that they can sell things. You forget - rules like this don't stop scum from being scummy. They just encourage more scummyness.

Not trying to hate on your idea, because it's good on paper. Maybe I'm just too cynical.

No I know where you are comming from. That's actually a good point. I mean, this is a suggestion forum, so the content in it should as well be open to suggestions. The trader rating score is good, but that can also be manipulated if one "desired" to. Perhaps EvoM could team up with PayPal in some way and display the member's rating on there for the puropse of integrity? If we can list what we drive, where we live, the number of times we have posted...Then this should be do-able. I mean, PayPal is quick to give you all the links and banners and advertising stuff you need (anything that mentions the PayPal name, even a "PayPal Verified" button for eBay and websites).

I know not everyone uses PayPal, but it is pretty widely used. It would be almost as widespread as a credit score, if you will...Since most of the people in the For Sale forum agree on PayPal being the safest, easiest, and quickest way of doing business.

Thoughts?

I really don't have a problem with the current system. I don't see too much abuse of it at present. But it's an idea.

i just know that it seems like i've posted a LOT and i'm still only at 200 posts. i like the idea that i could turn around tomorrow and post my wing for sale to make a quick $200.

this site is just too good a tool for anyone who buys an evo then starts replacing parts - sure, you could sell your stock parts on ebay, but i'd rather try to sell 'em to someone who knows the value of the parts.

just my .02
