To search or not to search?

There is a wideheald asertion that the search button is the panacea to all questions asked on this forum, or any forum for that matter. It is my contention that the search button is not quite as useful as many of its advocates may proclaim it to be. If one were to search for the answer to a commonly asked question using key words or phrases they would end up with a list of thousands of useless posts with only a fraction of them actually giving explanation to the questions that you may want answered. Many of these posts may actually just be someone mentioning what you asked and telling you to search. There seem to be many haters against the "non-searching and proud community." Now I will usually attempt to search but am generally unfulfilled by the answers that may be attained by a search that the average attention span can handle. So I pose this question: Is suggesting the search function trully just an arrogant disguise for those who do not know answers and are unwilling to help individuals eager to learn more about enjoying the Evolution experience, is it actually in some deranged way some how attempting to contribute to a thread, or are search junkies really the root of the problem themselves?

not necessary, but at least 10% of the posts I read are telling people to search. I think it is just out of control. Simply don't respond if you can't or won't answer. That may actually encourage more searching.

I won't ever tell someone to use the search feature unless I have actually done so myself and know that I can find the answer. Then I'll just post a link to that answer for the person. It's called people skills.

There are many on here, including one I consitently hold in contempt for this, that always get *****y about questions being asked.

It's all about laziness and lack of willingness to go out of one's way to help.

Search feature many times nets results on par with the prodigy home page search feature circa 1993. It's that good. Forget the search. Ask questions. Hit up your fellow mitsu fans for answers. It's more fun.

I haven't really been on these forums that long...but I always search things to death, and 9/10 when I find a thread relating, all that is said is "use search, this has been covered before". I think people should say, "search next time, but here is the answer to your question." Yes, it gets annoying seeing a dumb BOV question everyday, but it doesn't take much time to tell them why it's stupid and they shouldn't get one.

For some questions, yes ask, but some are just stupid like "what's the best exhaust for car X?". That's one that bugs me on a number of levels because 1. it's subjective, what I think is best others will hate and 2. it's been covered hundreds of times, hell I remember that question being asked when I first joined here. It's not laziness on the part of evom, it's laziness on the part of the OP. My general criteria is if I can find the answer in 30 seconds or less, I say search.

The search thing is just an excuse... i just take it as a free bump so someone who knows the answer can see it.

I say if you have time to reply with "search" then you have enough time to find a quick link to post.
