Question unecessary mods

Why do people try to make it look like they have alot of mods by adding stupid stuff like tightening the throttle cable, having window tint, or their radar detector. Are those really considered mods or are these people just trying too hard to make their cars look better?

I'm not trying to upset anyone but I just dan't see how anyone can say a $5 sticker or something like that is going to make a huge difference in what other people think about thier ride

becasue they all are "mods"

mod = modification, or I guess some people take it as "Anything that I've changed or is different from factory"

I mean if you're going to break it down then why put a body kit or **** as mods? isn't that kind of "uneccasary"?

I mean, just looking in your profile you put "remote start" and "participating in Evo Meets"
as mods.... people who live in glass houses....

but when its all said and done.... what does it matter?

edit: don't get me wrong, in no way am I trying to bash you or anything, I think you're car is very nice.

Actually the tightened throttle cable adds a tiny bit to throttle response. I think the "Yes and yes" answer is pretty much on point though.

the stuff iI mentioned is either free or something my grandmother would put on her car. Don't get all defensive I just wanted to know. I have a radar detector and window tint, and I too have tightened my throttle cable, but my opinion is that items like that don't really constitute as mods.

I painted my interior. It cost me $20. Any primate could do it. Does that mean I should or should not add it? My throttle cable is also tightened, but I forgot to list it.

I really don't think it matters.

if you want to list it then list, if not then i won't know you've done it.

wheres the problem??? this discussions is... redundant (sp)

Okay it seems like some of you don't understand what I meant. Spending $20 on paint and painting your interior changes the vehicle forever, that to me is a modfication. But stuff that anyone that aren't enthusiasts would do doesn't seem to be a modification worth listing. This is just my opinion, you are free to your own too.

Well, since it's the popular example, why would your everday Joe just up and tighten his throttle cable?

I understand what you meant, but taking off your air box and running an open panel filter held in with zip ties is a mod too and costs nothing.

Modifications are changes...if it's a change why not put it? I think extensive lists of individual decals would be where I'd draw the line though.

i.e. if I were to denote each interior piece I painted as a separate mod I think that might be a bit excessive.

again I go back to the FREE thing tightening the cable doesn't cost anything unless you had to buy a 10mm wrench to do it

oh ok, I get what you're saying and I definatly see your point.

I think theres got to be a line drawn somwhere. probobly dependant on price and use.

I mean if you want to get into functionability then an airfreshner might be classified as a mod, while my ps2 would probobly not be.

I think a radar detector is a mod, it can be hard wired in and custom mounted somewhere. If/when I get one I will definatly not just throw it in my cigarette lighter.
