You two didn't care to actually read my post did you? I am not talking about the swear words. I said I'd tolerate that. I'm talking about the lack of definition of what evolutionm considers a swear word

My grandma wouldn't slap me for saying anything. We don't hit people in my family. Either way, My grandma wouldn't care if I said the F word in front of her... besides, she's dead.

The definition is pretty well known, it's a social norm.

OK fine, if it's a word you wouldn't use in front of your boss or the president, it's covered.

Maybe for you, but you're saying that the term "profanity" has a hard line. But like I said, they don't block the word "***", nor do they block things like "god damn" which can be very offensiveand considered profanity, to religious types. You are 100% wrong to say that the definition of "profanify" is the same for everyone.

Nice try, but there are no words I can't use in front of my boss. Sorry, but I just don't live in the 1950s anymore. Since a portion of my job deals with pornography, the F word is used all over the place. As a matter of fact, if you use some other gay *** word, you'll get laughed at by all kinds of people in the industry. The proper term is the F word.

Not only do I have more than a moderate grasp of the English language, it is not my only fluent language. That still doesn't mean that everyone has the same idea of what profanity is to you vs. someone else.

Did I say that the word was 100% the same for everyone? No, however, there is a generally accepted idea of what dictates a profanity. Evom isn't a day care, it doesn't need to post up explicit statements as to what the rules are. Furthermore, it's not a public site, it's a private site.
Most people don't have a job where they can discuss smoking pole or gang bangs with their boss. Clearly you know that some rules are considered profanities, I have no idea why you are trying to argue that Evom should open itself up to these words.

I think webman has the most intelligent argument on here...what's really in a word?

The previous poster said "S**K my D**K!" which has to be modified to be construed, but I'm guessing that "Fellate my phallus" will go through the filter just fine...(yep, just checked and it does)

So what is profanity and who decides?

A word can get you fired. Intent is also important, if someone said 'fellate my phallus" in a serious way to a moderator, they'd get banned pretty quick. However, we do not live in some eutopian world where all words are created equal, some words are associated with particularly strong emotions and are thus not appropriate here.

Where did I argue that evom should open itself up to these words? Damn right I said I disagree, but ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE did I say I think they should change it. I suggest you go back and read my posts. But I think you get my point in the fact that the words aren't understood the same by everyone. What one considers profanity, another might not.

I'm complaining about two things:
1. There is no clear definition of what they consider profanity, except for the word filter
2. I am now being told that modifying a word to bypass the word filter, is against the rules, but that's not in the rules anywhere either.

I am asking that the rules be clarified, not repealed.

Having said that, I don't think that the "S**K D**K" comment is appropriate behavior or an intelligent way to respond to a legitimate argumate but, really, if several words mean the same thing, why censor some but not others?

This isn't my job...also, who said anything about moderators? I could just be describing a conversation that someone had with someone I know...

So if I say "You're a nasty meany" with the intent that I'd like to kill you, I'm going to get banned for it? I don't think so...because no one can prove that's my intent, they're just words...

Besides, if the concern is a "family friendly site", I highly doubt most kids are going to appreciate what "Fellate my phallus" actually means...

So this is just moaning really?
This is a rule
