Give it time. Not all of the site functions are working right now

One more suggestion I have. Can Mark try to put the active forum browsers of a particular forum back at the top? Having them at the bottom of the page is pointless since one hardly ever scrolls down there.

Also, is there a way to make the quick reply box constantly active?

I dont like how you have to click on a button to release the "Quick Reply" box here to type in. I don't like the User Interface, it is very cartoony, clunky, and BIG. The old board was crisp and not as graphically 'intense'. I dont like how you have to click on an image to see it. The user names are HUGE...the signatures are now out of place...the color scheme is very "Windows XP"ish (which I hate). The buttons are huge and cartoony. There is an enormous amount of wasted space both above and below threads.

I do like the new profile options...I like how you can "tune out" forums you care nothing about (such as the ralliart and oz forums, etc). In general I like the new 'backend' stuff implimented in this version. I like the quick links bar on top with a good UI to edit your profile, options or show your buddy list. I like the search dropdown.

Thats it so far.

- There's a lot of cool new features in VB3. Most of them seem to be disabled or not implemented yet. There are some memberlist options, like a 2nd picture (non-avatar) that only show up in the memberlist (good for actual picture of yourself). Birthdays (I think there's an automated e-mailer for b-days?) etc.
- The username hotlink is nice.
- The new PM system is great. Makes tracking and whatnot much easier. I think there's some confusing aspects regarding return receipts, if memory serves.
- "Reason for editing" box - best feature in the new version!

Gripes:

- Dead space. I HATE DEAD SPACE. VB3 has about 50% more dead space than the old site. Scroll down a long thread and < 10% of the page space is devoted to the actual post. Which leads to the corollary...
- Too damn big. I have big monitors at high resolution, so this complaint may vary, but the "Post Reply" button is almost 2" wide. Tenky's screen name is 3 1/2" wide. Shrinking the text size within IE doesn't change the overall waste of space, either.
- Too cartoonish. I think this is unavoidable in VB3, so not the end of the world.
- Quick reply. Fine, but it requires a click in the thread? If I wanted to quote someone's post, I'd use the quote button and the full reply screen. Disable the quickreply button!

I thought the old site was very bland, but I'm not on a car forum to look at art. I want a streamlined interface, quick navigation, and a minimum of wasted space. The actual appearance of the new site (to me) is better, but needs to go on a diet.

I don't see the old link that said 'Mark All Forums Read'. Am I missing it? Not needed anymore?

Wow. Am I the only one who actually LIKES this setup? I'm sorry, but even if the old forums worked well and did their job, I like change and I think this is a very clean setup. Either way, I liked the old boards, but change is nice and I have zero problems with it. It's refreshing.

Oh well. I'm sure all the bugs will be worked out.

ditto.....it's annoying to have to click post reply and go to another screen just to reply to a thread

I also would like to see the new posts button on the homepage.

Overall I think it's harder to navigate than the old site but we'll see how it goes....

Talking

Smiley buttons are not working in guided mode: JS error pops up: "theform.message is null or not an object".

Vendor forums have lost their sponsored look and links.

I like the new format, except for the giant user name font.

Thumbs down

Hate It? No, more like Detest, Loathe and Abhor it! If you were looking to attract the hip young'uns and eschew all class and professionalism with new snazzy colors and big font, you have achieved your purpose.

1. Threads are now buried on the bottom. Prime function of this site is a discussion forum - no? I understand the need for ad space, but this is a bit too much.

2. What happened to the very handy "threads since my last visit" lookup functionality? The pop-up window is a very sorry substitute.

3. There is no longer a quick reply box at the end of a thread - more clicks to get the same result is NOT an improvement.

4. Not all Smilies are available at once - once again, more clicks and wasted bandwidth is NOT an improvement.

And these are just first impressions! Sorry, but I have not seen a single improvement yet. Of course YMMV and IMO only.
