Looking For Lancer That Shot Another Car
Looking For Lancer That Shot Another Car
A car with the following description is reported to have shot out the window of another car somewhere in the vicinity of Bellaire (in the Houston area) early Monday morning:
- silver Mitsubishi sedan (probably Lancer)
- loud exhaust
- big-*** wing, but not as big as an Evo's
- the Mitsubishi emblem on the trunk was red
- possible out-of-state plates
- the driver was a young-ish white guy with glasses and shoulder length brown hair
If you have any info, please contact the Bellaire Police Department. Or PM me, and I'll contact them.
As for how I know about this, here's my tale:
About 90 minutes ago I had a very interesting experience while driving down Bellaire Boulevard through Bellaire, on my way to a late night breakfast at Taco Cabana.
A cop car hauling butt through an intersection in front of me slammed in its brakes, did a u-turn, and then stopped at the light to wait for me to go through. As I went sloooowly through the intersection a second cop car materialized behind me with its lights on. As I pulled into a nearby parking lot, a 3rd cop car came out of somewhere.
So now I'm sitting in a parking lot surrounded by cops.
WTF?
I rolled down the windows on both sides, turned the car off, turned the interior lights on, put both hands on top of the wheel where they could be seen, and then waited. After several seconds cops walked up on boths sides of the car.
"What's going on, guys?", I asked.
"Where's your friend?", a sweaty, obnoxious cop asked.
I couldn't help myself: "Crap! People were street racing and y'all think it was me. Crap!"
There ensued much discussion where the obnoxious cop asked me all sorts of questions and I insisted that whatever it was, he was mistaken. But the cop was sure I was lying because my car matched the description they had, and I matched the description of the driver involved.
They had me get out of the car and frisked me. The whole "hands on top of the car" thing. I gave them permission to search the vehicle, to help end this thing as soon as possible.
As I was standing there with the cops, I realized that the phrase I originally thought was "road race" was in fact "road rage". One of the cops made the comment that they took it seriously when someone shot at another car.
Holy crap!
But while the incident I was being pegged for was more serious than street racing, it also made me feel better because I knew they weren't just going to dump a BS ticket on me. This thing would be really investigated, and I knew that I would be cleared. Plus, I'd never been arrested and always wondered what it would be like. It would be a whole lot easier to enjoy the experience if I knew I would ultimately be cleared of what I was being arrested for.
I offered to go to wherever the cops needed me to, so that whoever had given a drescription of the driver could get a good look at me. That's when the cops told me that they were coming to where we were.
Several minutes later a Corrolla or something (with a humongous flame job on the hood) drove up with four young people (20-ish) in it. Two guys and two girls. One of the guys came walking up to the cops, pointed at my car, and said, "That looks exactly like the car." Then he pointed at me and said, "But that's definitely not the guy."
One of the girls turned to me and apologized. I told her it was not their fault.
I asked the guy what had happened to them, and he said some car was following them tailgating them, and then pulled up next to him and shot out their window. They still had some glass in their clothes, and one guy said he had a piece in his neck.
The cop told me I was free to go. "As soon as possible," I think he said. I replied, "This is kind of interesting. I'll hang around for a while if y'all don't mind." One of the younger cops smiled at that, but they let me stay.
I wanted to peg down a description of the car, so I started asking the kids more detail than the cops apparently had. The four kids were standing around my car, so I asked them whether the car they saw were exactly like mine, or whether it had any customized features. One kid said it had a big wing, but then held out his hand about halfway up the side of my wing and said, "But the wing was only about this high." He added that it looked like the car came from the factory with the wing. One of the girls pointed at the Diamond Star emblem on the trunk, and told the cops, "And this was red. This was definitely red." I asked the kids whether they were sure it was an Evo, and they weren't. They said it was defintely a Mitsu, though. I pointed at the fender flares over the wheels and asked one of the guys whether the car he say had them. He thought it didn't.
I got a business card from one of the cops and told them I'd help them try to find the car. And that's what this post is all about.

I'm questioning now whether it was even a Lancer. Yesterday I went to Taco Bell for lunch, and in the parking lot was a silver Galant sedan with a low wing and a red Mitsu badge on the trunk. It fit the very limited description of the shooter's car even better than my Evo did. And it looked bone stock. Probably more of them than Evos in Houston.

The description of the shooter's car included "big exhaust" (or maybe "loud exhaust"). This car had a stock-looking exhaust. I think the red Mitsu badge is standard on the Galants (or at least the Galants with that option package).
