Evo broken into!

Somebody smashed out my driverside window and tried to steal my alpine stereo (destroying it in the process), then went in my trunk and tried to steal my box (also destroying it in the process) and they couldn't figure out how to get my JL audio amp out, so basically they trashed my car for nothing, the crazy thing is I was at home and awake and didn't hear anything. And to top it all off my Insurance won't cover my stereo, even though it was in the car when I bought it! What a crappy day!

What kind of policy? are you under a liability only or full comprehensive?

That totally sucks. I had one of my cars broken into and the thief was successful taking all the electronic crap. It was a vehicle i parked all winter and had taken insurance off just in the winter.

it really sucks this happened at your house when you were there.

Only one ten, you can't hear from the outside, I'm more about go than show, it was in the car when I bought it. Hell I haven't even driven the car in about 2 months.

And I have full coverage, but they are saying that I didn't list it when I got coverage on the car. Evidently it doesn't matter if the stereo was in the car when I purchased it.

True that, I do keep it blocked in w/ other cars though and the clutch is dead at the moment, so if somebody were to steal the whole car they'd have car theft skills that put Nick Cage's to shame!

Tell them to cover your stock stereo. The stocker costs almost $800 from the dealer.

This happened to me in South Carolina with my old Evo VIII. They stole my alpine head unit, stock (unused) amp, both front Recaro seats, radar detector and my tools in the trunk.

The paid $1500 for the stock stereo (head unit and amp) and $3700 for each Recaro seat.
I did the sensible thing and bougth a pair of almost new Recaros from someone on the forums for $900 and bought another alpine for $250. I also had the body shop repait my hood, installed a turbo xs front mount, new rims, etc. Then I paid off my time share with the rest.

I'm sorry to hear about what happened. I remember how I felt. Take advantage of the situation. See if they'll cover a stock stereo. It was bolted to the car in any case, so it should be covered. Anything not bolted down has to be covered under homeowners or renters insurance.

Edit - where you talking to an agent or a claims adjuster? If its the agent, then call the company direct and find out if thats right.

Thanks Evog8r, that's a great idea, I did talk to an agent but she said the final word is on the adjuster. Everybody else thanks for the kind words.

It's crazy because I bought this house from my dad, and the whole time he lived here he always left the keys to his $80k mercedes in the car and the front door unlocked, and he never had a problem. My neighberhood has really gone to sh*t in the last few years, hell a while back we had bank robbers hiding out in the neighberhood, and somebody sexually assaulted an elderly lady. WTF is wrong w/ people these days? Sorry for the rant!
