Need some info on DFW

My gf and I might be moving to the DFW area and I would like to know how that area is. The area would be about 1 mile from Univeristy of North Texas college of medicine if anyone knows where that is. I plan to get a new evo x when we move down there and dont want to if around that area is bad (dont wanna get my car stolen, from detroit where it happens a lot). If anyone is from that area and you could tell me more about it that would be great, thanks.

Fort Worth is more laid back than Dallas. It's not my area area of expertise though.

I have one word for you re: a nice car: Garage. Seriously if you're renting pay the $100 more a month for an apartment or a condo or a house with a garage for your car.

According to this: http://neighborhoods.realtor.com/TX/...38/Crime-stats

It looks like it's the hood lol -- but if you're from Detriot it might look like suburbia!

can you get a garage at most apartment complexes because that is where we will be living.

most no, some yes.

The housing market in some areas down there is really depressed and I bet you could pick up a rental house or townhome for just as much as renting an apartment.

I know it's hard to do from really far away, but I would maybe think about spending a week or so here with a rental car in a cheap hotel finding the right place to live.

i grew up in michigan my whole life, and moved down here almost 4 years ago now. dallas/ft worth for the most part is a lot nicer then detroit, but they each have the not so nice areas. i wouldn't commit to a place to live until you get down here first. i got my evo a month before i moved down here, and only one apartment place i lived in, my car was broken into (very cheap apartment, no garage). the nicer areas i've lived in ive never had a problem, and my evo is almost always parked outside.

I grew up in Motor City and have lived in a bunch of places in country and out.

I will be in Detroit all this wee of the Woodward Ave Dream C.

DFW is hot we have been over 100 for a month now. You do not have four seasons here.

I for one think you make where you live. There is a great car culture here.

The EVO guys here are great and there is a great dealer down here that sponsers track days through my driving school on a road course.

Property values are lower here so you will get more for your money.

I live about 3-4 miles south..Great place. Try allowing yourself a little travel...one apt complex down here has a bus that goes to the campus , so its no big deal.( I am sure other do as well) ..When you live in Texas if your not commuting 30 min your not leaving the neighborhood! Look around, not a big deal and you dont have to live on campus if you have a car.

job market down here is probably better than anywhere up north. Finding a job kinda depends on what you are looking for. There are absolutely good places to live esp in ft. worth you'll just have to look around. Like they said above, don't restrict yourself to right around the campus, look all over. Living in Dallas will be too far away for the most part and more expensive.
