Ticketed for Mod. Exhaust
Ticketed for Mod. Exhaust
Was pulled over when i left a light too quickly for a Travis Co. Sherriffs Deputy. He said, "I pulled you over for a modified exhaust." An excuse, right, i mean he was looking for something more. He gave me a warning, and wrote on the ticket just that, "Modified Exhaust." When I asked what the violation was, db? safety equipment? racing equipment? he said only that it was not OEM.
Anyone know if there is a such a state law on the books? I can't find anything, but I've not really had the time to go down to the library.

Consider yourself lucky--you got a WARNING! He could have written you up for excessive acceleration-- . Smile and walk away! Yes there is a DB rating for cars, if he has a meter since you asked. Just keep it cool, keep your foot off the gas and give everyone a break. You shouldnt complain when you knew what you were doing was going to draw attention and a possible citation.

You say there is a db rating, but i don't think so, just as i don't believe there is a law against non-OEM exhausts. If there is a db rating for personal vehicles no Harley i've ever met would pass, and that is a personal vehicle just the same as my car.
You do realize you can ask for him to show you that regulation, statue or whatever it maybe, right? That's probably a much better source than the forums. If he says he doesn't have it, ask him for the number or section.
read the post, no assumptions should be made. I left the light too quickly FOR HIS TASTE, ie., he was looking for a reason to pull me over. Just off work and trying to get home, so he didn't really have a kid street racing, nor did he have a DWI candidate he was hoping for (ST Pat day).
