They should at least take a 10 night cruise or somthing around Curucao, Korfu, Belize, or even Hawaii if they're just going to lounge around..
My point in talking about autocross vs road course was that for the novice, it's better they start out with autocrossing and finding the limits of their cars in a low speed manner, because taking a turn at 100+mph, making a mistake, and not knowing to how correct it properly has more chances of you nailing the barrels of hay in the grass than plowing into a parking lot light pole. You gotta learn how to walk before you learn how to run.

The way I look at it, walking first requires a lot of practice and autocrossing for 90s with a few hours inbetween without and instructor to help correct you and guide you is all too often how people get introduced to autocrossing. at a HPDE you have an instructor and its abot building up to speed since you have 6 45 minute sessions. Teh difference between the first 5 laps and the last 3 laps is usually staggaring, for the simple reason you don't want people going off course. and as for safety at HPDEs, at least at MSR, you would have to do something beyond foolish, fail, make another attempt, fail, and then maybe on your third attempt succeed at hitting something. It has so much run off it's almost comical.

The other thing in reference to the Evo especially is you have enough power that you don't get to unwind it or use it autocrossing, it can be used partially to maintain a good speed through the corners, but part of driving is wrapping it through the gears, heal and toeing, downshifting and braking.. things you just don't bother with in autocrossing. But learning to left foot brake and leave the gear shift alone is also a good thing to know and quite paramount in autocrossing.

So what's up with all the wussy Evo owners. It's much cheaper to run at an HPDE than get a ticket or get in an accident. Folks need to come out. Run what ya Brung. Folks think drag racing is somehownot abusive and cheaper to do than an HPDE? wrong. smoke that clutch and replace it and your out a grand. You can road race an Evo on a stock clutch ( and if you're using the clutch wrong (!!) they'll let you know and yell at you to stop abusing the car. ) without any problem all day long..

HPDE's will get you more track time/seat time, with less expense, and with more information to soak up. When you can follow someone through the corners you can see what they are doing right and wrong and have an instructor point this out to you. at an autocross you can watch from ground level usually at 150 ft away while the cars action spots are obscured by cones. Both should be done, but in one weekend of HPDEs novices quickly realize just how little they know. I've seen too many folks come away from a first sunday afternoon autocross thinking they're the bomb, they're times were so close to some other car or whatever and that after XYZ mod, they'll beat em.. completely missing the point of learning how to drive and skill will make them faster than any mod. an autocross Evolution School is good too, but there - tires are a throw away commodity since it's anything for an extra tenth..

I was convinced before I joined this site. Now that you've called us all yellow give us the rest of the info. Where the F-F is MSR, what does it cost to attend a school? Who offers the classes?

At this point I'm going to attend SCCA events. There is an autocross this weekend. They usually have classes before the event. They also put together formal classes on occasion, you just have to check their schedule or contact the club.

But Mr. Zx3 and the rest: give us the info. I think there are a lot of EVO owners who would get on the track, but we need more info that you have provide thus far.

The reason I'm waiting until Septmember is because my car has a whopping 160 miles on the engine. I'm still breaking it in. It would be sweet to join the herd in July, but I don't think that would be good for my car.

Maybe I'll come out and watch.

Two weeks to put on 1500 miles. That's easy go for a nice 45 min drive one direction each night, 45 mins back. repeat each night. Probably find a lot of nice roads just out driving and checking things out.. Pick a different direction to go explore each night . N, NW, W, SW, S, SE, E, NE. Plenty of nice places around DFW..

Yeah, I want to speed things up but Monday - Thursday I'm out of town. Then Friday - Sunday I need to spend some time with the family; take care of the stuff that didn't get done around the house and take care of paper work.

Right now I'm having to fix the gate on my fence. Drive to home depot for a bolt, drive to the house. put bolt in. Drive to home depot for a treated 2X4. drive home. drive to home depot for a nail. you get the idea.

Think I will throw the kids in the back and take them to Starbucks for breakfast. The one off the square in Fort Worth.

all of the local evo owners i know are very interested in tracking their cars, but either cant remember when the days are or cant make time. i personally cannot track my car for health reasons. maybe a pm to the locals with dates would help since the regionals are pretty dead.

Berserker if you don't mind a question or two? Are you looking to only run at TWS exclusively? If so why? proximity? familiarity with the course/ particular course setup?

There are so many great tracks within a few hours of North Texas.

For the DFW'ites. Olny a few more days left to register, right now it looks like a couple silvers and a black are commited.

Where are this supposed Evo owners interested in finding out what their cars are all about? I find too many blowhards.. all talk..

I just can't help but turn laugh and walk away when they whine "I don' thave the money right now.... But I'm getting this oh so schweet blow of valve and electonic doohickey .. dude.. " oh well at least I know when I see the crumpled up Evos on flat beds who to picture heading in the other direction to the hospital..

Hey Mister2z, no disrespect, but throwing **** around like that ain't exactly motivating folks. Maybe you got the money to spend, and maybe you don't. But ALL of us have a good enough reason why we can't get out and do something. Perhaps you have the time, or the funds, and others don't. Or maybe I'm just reading into it too much, but ****, I know one thing. From where I'm from, talk **** like that in my neighborhood...

...your car comes up missing.

Not making a threat, but like I said earlier, perhaps your motivation methods aren't the best (or wisest) for some people to actually feel what your saying. I'm assuming you know the car, and some folks still learning. So teaching is one thing.

****ting on folks because they don't have the funds for the track is another.
