If you really want to learn the car, and you have the money to afford it, go to a performance driving school of some sort. There, you'll learn your car and have great instruction on how to drive it better and safer. Regardless of age, driving schools are a great and safe enviroment to learn at. Learning how to race on the streets is just putting yourself, and others at risk.

Sorry about your misfortunes with your evo. You're fortunate to have had Mitsubishi replace the first broken parts. I had a lot of fun learning how to drive my car when I first got it. Clutch went out around 11k miles. Only thing I've replaced besides the clutch were the tires. I have to say for sure, I drive it much different now than when I first got it.

Dont worry about changing out parts on the car just yet... Learn it first, enjoy the car stock. The evo is an amazing vehicle stock. Once you become more acqainted with it, then mod. You'll have a more appreciation for the mods afterwards...

good luck...

For any of you who think im spoiled, i have to pay $1600 every 6 months to drive this car b/c of how my parents drive and what they drive. yeah i could go buy a corrolla and go **** that up but thats not why i bought this car. i bought it to look good, maybe start showing, and if i feel like it i might go autox. yes i know there are better cars out there to autox but i just liked the evo b/c of all the accolades it supposedly has.

yes mitsu did screw me over b/c i started racing after almost 1500 miles and not right when i got the car. plus for the first 500-700 miles my dad was mostly driving this car and hes been driving manula trannys all of his life. he knows what he is doing and knows that a clutch should not have gone out at 900 miles even with me driving it. Im not stupid with my car. For anyone that knows me they know that yes i may drive fast here or there but its not a race everywhere i go. Ill admit ive street raced twice. Once in the evo and once in my old rsx. I would go to the track but with all of the problems ive been having i figure its not worth it to race on the track or the street and then have something break, b/c then i will have to pay for it.

Like i said in the first post this is just my reason why i will never buy another mitsubishi and i hope to get rid of this one. for all i know i could have gotten a lemon.

all right now if any of you have any helpful advice on what to do and not stop ****ing flaming me then it would be much appreciated.
Are you for real?. do you hear yourself talking or what? Its not about your age I started driving when I was 14 but this is not the case. the case is that you are abusing the car.

kid stuff?

Last week I met a young guy with an Evo who told me about that when he first got his car he would show off to his friends by revving it to 7000 rpm and sidestepping the clutch on dry ground. He explained to me that this was the source of his numerous tranny/t-case problems. He advised me to not do the same stuff he had done with his car.

(No worries there. Trust me.)

I wonder whether this is the same guy?

But, hey, I gotta admit: I did ridiculous stuff with cars when I was that age, too. I can't fault a kid for being a kid and doing ridiculous kid stuff.

But I can fault someone for not taking responsibility for his own actions, which IMHO is what is going on here.

I was actually somewhat impressed last week by the young guy who was mature enough to admit his mistakes and advise me (unnecessarily, of course) to not make the same ones. I'll actually be a little disappointed if this turns out to be the same guy.

A 16 year-old learning to drive stick with an Evo is like teaching a toddler balance by putting him on skis on a double black diamond...

And, dude, your car collection is killing me.

I met him (you?) at some parking lot on Westheimer (far West) a couple of Friday's ago. I saw the get-together mentioned on the Houston-Imports.com site. Outside some cafe (ICafe?) Is that you?

I hope my post didn't come across as a flame. That wasn't the intent.

Regarding your Mitsibushi problems: I think if you were honest with yourself and put yourself in Mitsubishi's place (meaning: having to write the check for the repairs to an abused car), you'd probably behave just as the dealer is. It seems that most people here would, which is why you're getting the crap-ola slung at you.

I understand that you're saying the problem you're trying to get fixed predates your "playing" with the car. We readers, of course, have no way of knowing whether that is true. We know only what's been written here. And based on what's here (and, again, please don't take this as a flame) I think you have something of a credibility problem, because you've essentially already admitted to filing a false warranty claim on the first clutch.

You've basically put yourself into the "boy who cried wolf" situation.

But if you are that guy I met in the lot the other night, then based on the combination of having met you and seeing what you've written here, I really don't think you're all that bad a guy. Like I said earlier, the guy I met was mature enough to own up to having done some jacked-up stuff to his car.

We *all* do stoopid stuff from time to time. Children, and all too many adults, don't accept responsibility for their actions. The guy I met in the lot wasn't doing too bad for an 18-year-oldish kid. Not bad at all.

yep....that would be Poptarts.

It's funny because everytime i hang out with him, i'm using the one drag racing my car and he's usually in the back of the crowd playing catching up. You really have to get to know this guy before you judge him, he takes alot pride in his Evo and and really loves his car. I personally think he has a Lemon.

Good Luck Poptarts

I don't think you get it. I have no problem with a person learning to drive a stick on this car. Where does it say that anyone who learns to drive a stick should use a $5000 car? But you claim that they screwed you over because you waited 1500 miles before you started to race? You RACED! Look in the warranty book that came with the car. Racing voids the warranty. You sit here and tell us you race, then tell us you're pissed that Mitsu isn't covering your parts. Did you learn to read before you were 16? Any parts that broke after you started racing should come from your own pocket. Not ours. Because that's what will happen. I have a stock car and DON'T race, and I'll probably be denied warranty work because Mitsu looses so much money on people like you.

When I do spend the 30K+ for my evo mr, I'm not gonna race it. I just want something for driving enjoyment. It'll be a joy car. Nothing more. Now thats just me. If anyone wants to race their car, let them, just dont go crying to the dealer when something brakes. I would be upset if my tranny was howling in a new car but I would be more upset for causing the problem on a 30K+ dollar car. Lets be serious, racing is expensive, after drag racing several years and spectating at several speedvision events, I know that race cars will brake. Thats why in the manual, the owner is warned about racing. Good luck with getting the car fixed though.
