Every comes from somewhere else at one point or anything. You should represent your nationality with pride, nothings wrong with that. If your native american, thats a different story, theyre from here. But even then, the us came and took over their land. each to there own....
What flag u raise is your choice, at the end of the day the people who are in this country are here because they want to be here. You're not stuck in one country by force, if she didnt like the u.s. or was anti u.s. do you think she would be here?
She's just as american as anyone else here. Its not an easy trip to get here, so that shows she does cherish the country and is no different then you, me or anyone else.
Cheers!

Hispanics in general and Cubans in this case are very Egocentric. When boatloads of Haitians are sent back to their country the Cuban community has NOT aided them. But when Elian was going to get sent back the Cuban community demanded that the Haitians help. I know about this as DCF was involved in this whole issue. That is just plain unfair. Yadi says if it were up to her she would let them all come. I agree on this point. If we are going to let one people come then all should be allowed. This is not the case and has not been for 40+ years. So there is a inequity, an imbalance here.
In fact the Elian issue ended up with me and my mother not speaking for years. As a nation of laws we HAD to return Elian in accordance with our own laws. My mother told me we could not let Castro win. I replied that the moment Elian landed on our shores Castro had already won. While we were debating the child's best interest Castro was putting forth tons of propaganda that he was going to FORCE the US to turn over Elian.
If we turn over Elian, then Castro claims a victory. If we don't, then he can claim an even bigger victory by showing all those countries that are on the fence how we cannot be trusted to obey even our own laws. He essentially tells them we are not trustworthy. When I explained all of this to my mother she said it didn't matter... we had to save Elian! So what could we do? We obeyed our own laws and turned the child over to his father. And then the Cuban community got all pissed off and rolled garbage dumpsters onto 836.
As for the flag your raising being your own choice. That is true. But what message are you sending there. What, you like freedom of speech but only when someone is blowing sunshine up your azz? God forbid someone disagree with you because then they are azzholes.
Hey life in Cuba sucks but I can think of at least 15 countries where they have it worse. A lot worse. So why is it that only the Cubans have the right to become residents the moment they step foot in this country. My wife was in constant danger from the "guerilla" in Colombia. In fact on the last visit she avoided a bomb blast at a mall by about 20 minutes. Above all else it is that "me only" attitude that has really made me very critical of the Cuban community as a whole.
And since Yadi was putting words in my mouth I am going to return the favor. I guess Yadi has more of a right to live than my wife does because all yadi had to do was step on US soil and she was a resident while I had to jump through about 4 months of hoops to bring my wife over and then another 5 years of legal proceedings to make her permanent.
He's not very big. In some cases I don't think he'd have a choice.
That's a whole other issue.
That wasn't really the point of all of this. This discussion started with the whole English/Spanish theme and then just spread. Simple fact is I have firsthand experience with the whole English/Spanish issue and have been involved in this issue here in Miami for a long time.
