Post up!!!!!!
Good morning everyone
Well here are my thoughts on long distance driving in an Evo.
#1 Mileage: 19-20 MPG with the AC on at an average speed of 90-95 MPH. That's not bad. and if I get an afc and tune it a bit it will be even better I hope. Small gas tank and High speeds meant frequent fillups though. It does give you a chance to meet people though. I met a gas station attendant on the way up on Sunday. Nice Kid.
A: "Wow. This is the first time I seen an evolution in person. Most people around here buy SRT4s. How does she run?"
M: "If you can afford one I highly reccommend it. Fast and handles like a go-kart. If not, the SRT4 is a good deal. Won't handle like an Evo but it's good bang for the buck."
A: "Sure is purty..."
The on ramp for I-75 was right next to the gas station, so I gave her full throttle as the attendant looked on. I probably wasn't as fast as Jonasan but I think I got my point across.
#2 Noise: I have a Bushur 3" turboback so the exhaust is a little louder than stock. I found that cruising at 70-75 the car droned a bit. cruising at 80+ the sound got a lot more pleasant to the ear. I didn't really notice any road noise but it doesn't mean it was not there.
#3 Ride: The Evo is a car that will not permit you a moment of rest. The handling is so telepathic that you cannot doze off... which is a good thing. While cruising at high speed you need two hands on the steering wheel. Also since the ride is stiff you are always looking for that smooth lane. One that's been freshly asphalted or at least not cracked up too much.
#4 Handling: We all know how the car handles but it just get's better when you need it. Just be careful in heavy rain, the Yokohamas don't do well over 70 mph in the rain. I got a little bit of hydroplaning near Orlando in a heavy shower. 5th gear at high speed is great,
you never really have to downshift... just goose it a little and the turbo will boost you past almost anyone, as an a$$hole in a white Escalade can attest to. This will let you get around most traffic problems. Or you can be like Jonasan and use the shoulder...
#5 Comfort: This is a comfortable and roomy car. My navigator had plenty of room to get snacks and drinks from the cooler. And the only issue was a lack of cruise control. Yeah I know this car does not need it, but, it is a convenience for those long distance drives. the only thing you really need is those gas stops to get out and stretch. So I guess the small gas tank does have a use... stretch breaks. BTW this car has a huge trunk and can carry a lot of tihs!!
That's it for the review.
See y'all later
